The Department of Resource Management is a comprehensive agency comprised of the Environmental Health Services, Building and Safety, Planning Services, Public Works, Parks and Administrative Services Divisions. The department provides for the well-being of Solano County's present and future residents and the public at-large through administration and enforcement of Federal, State, and Local laws and policies pertaining to environmental health, building construction, land use planning, transportation and recreation. The Environmental Health Services Division is responsible for protecting public health and the environment by implementing environmental health programs in three broad areas:

The Environmental Health Specialist (Journey) works independently under general direction of the Environmental Health Supervisor to provide enforcement and consultation for a broad range of Environmental Health and Safety laws and regulations. As an Environmental Health Specialist (Journey) you would conduct inspections, investigations, and evaluations, processing permits and providing information to the public to ensure compliance with health and safety codes and regulations.
The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill full-time and part-time regular, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur or the need arises.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Experience: One (1) year of experience at the level of Environmental Health Specialist (Entry)
AND
Education/Training: A Bachelor's degree. from an accredited four-year college or university, which meets the requirements of the California Health and Safety Code, Division 104, Part 1, Chapter 4, Article 1, Section 106600 (et sequiter).
AND
Special Requirements: Must be registered with the State of California as Registered Environmental Health Specialist, in accordance with Division 104, Part 1, Chapter 4, Article 1, Section 106600 (et sequiter) of the California Health and Safety Code.
Possession of or the ability to obtain a valid Class C California driver’s license.

Solano County offers a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits, offered through CalPERS. The County contribution for family coverage is $1,671.21 per month for 2022. The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only or who waive medical insurance coverage. The County may offer a supplemental contribution for employees enrolled in Employee plus Two or More coverage.
Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County.
Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement and contributes to Social Security.
The County observes 12 full day fixed and 2 half day fixed paid holidays per year. Additionally, employees in this bargaining unit receive 2 floating paid holiday(s) per year.
Vacation is accrued at approximately 10 days per year for the first 3 years. Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year.
Employees are eligible to receive an additional 2.5% longevity pay, per level, after the completion of continuous service at 10, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years.

To be eligible, applicant must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions. A COPY OF THE DD 214, SHOWING DISCHARGE TYPE, MUST BE RECEIVED IN THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT BY THE FINAL FILING DATE.
