The Position

The Public Health Nurse Manager plans, organizes and oversees the work of professional staff engaged in one or more public health programs; assists in the formulation of policies and procedures; supervises and serves as a consulting resource for a large staff involved in providing health, social and mental health services; serves as a member of the department’s management/supervisory team.

The Public Health Nurse Manager is responsible for developing and managing multiple health services programs.  The Public Health Nurse Manager assists in the formulation of goals, objec­tives, policies, and procedures and assume significant responsibility for the preparation and admin­istra­tion of assigned budgets. The Public Health Nurse Manager ensures that assigned activities are completed in a timely and efficient manner consistent with defined policies and regulations.

The eligible list created as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill full-time and part-time regular, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur throughout the County.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Experience: Three (3) years of general public health or mental health nursing experience, depending on area of assignment, which includes one year of supervisory and/or program coordinator responsibility.

Education/Training: 

Bachelor’s degree is required from an accredited college or university in Public Health, or Nursing administration.  A Master’s degree is desirable.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Possession of a valid Registered Nurse license issued by California Board of Registered Nursing.
  • Possession of a California State Public Health nursing certificate is required for positions allocated to the Public Health section of the nursing Division.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class C California driver’s license may be required.
  • Must possess CPR card prior to appointment.

BENEFITS

Solano County offers a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits, offered through CalPERS. The County contribution for family coverage for the 2022 calendar year is $1,671.27 per month.  The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only or who waive medical insurance coverage. The County may offer a supplemental contribution for employees enrolled in Employee plus Two or More coverage.  

Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County.

Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement and contributes to Social Security.

The County observes 12 full day, and 2 half day fixed paid holidays per year. Additionally, employees in this bargaining unit receive 2 floating paid holiday(s) per year.  

Vacation is accrued at approximately 10 days per years for the first 3 years. 

Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year.  

Employees are eligible to receive an additional 2.5% longevity pay, per level, after the completion of continuous service at 10, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years.

Effective July 1 of each year, 80 hours of administrative leave/attorney time off is granted.

Extra-help employees who work less than 29 hours per week do not typically receive or accrue benefits of regular employees during their period of employment. All extra-help employees accrue .034 hours of Sick Leave for every full hour worked.
