The Librarian (Entry) is the entry-level position of the Librarian series. The Librarian (Entry) provides community-focused library services in a branch setting for adults, teens, or children including programming, collection development and maintenance, outreach and partnerships, customer service, and leadership.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working with the public in a diverse community; seeks to create a welcoming environment in the library; is confident with public speaking and presentations; has familiarity with library services, materials, and trends; has experience working with the age group identified in the position; and is flexible and resilient, able to change service models as the needs of the community change.
The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill full-time and part-time regular, limited term, or extra-help positions as vacancies occur or the need arises.
THE DUTIES
Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to the following: POSITION REQUIREMENTS Experience: No experience required. Education/Training: Possession of a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an accredited college or university is required. SUPPLEMENTAL REQUIREMENTS Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class C California driver’s license may be required for some positions. A Master's Degree in Library Science is required for this position. Applicants are encouraged to submit either a copy of their degree OR official/unofficial transcripts which verify the date and degree conferred by the final filing deadline. 2. If you selected Children’s Services in Question 1, please describe what experience you have working with children ages 0-18 years.
To be eligible, applicants must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions. A copy of the DD214, showing discharge type, must be received in the Human Resources Department by the final filing date. Applicants who have a service connected disability must submit a recent award letter from the VA stating they are receiving disability benefits for service connected reasons.
Veteran applicants for initial County employment with an honorable or general discharge under honorable conditions shall have five (5) points added to their combined score. Disabled veterans (rated at not less than 30% disability) shall have ten (10) points added to their combined score. Veteran preference points will only be added to passing scores in competitive open examinations.
