Solano County Library is a progressive and innovative library with secure funding and widespread support from the community. The Library serves the community with eight branches and virtual services in five of the seven cities in Solano County with a staff of 111 FTE. A Library Departmental Aide (Extra-help) performs a variety of routine clerical tasks, under close supervision; performs related duties as required.
Some examples of duties that will be performed as a Library Departmental Aide (Extra-help) are processing library materials and placing books and other material on shelves in proper alpha-numeric sequence. Emptying book return bins and sort to book cards, shelving, or delivery bins. Checking in/out books, periodicals and other library material on the automated computer system. Preparing the assigned branch for opening and closure and assist with meeting room set up and program preparation. Assisting and directing walk-in customers, including operation of the self check machines.
This recruitment is intended to fill Library Departmental Aide (Extra-Help) position. Extra-help employees do not have rights to a regular position or continued employment and are excluded from civil service. The hours worked will generally be up to 19-hours per week, but hours cannot exceed more than 999 hours in a fiscal year.

Extra-help employees who work less than 29 hours per week do not typically receive or accrue benefits of regular employees during their period of employment. All extra-help employees accrue .034 hours of Paid Time Off for every full hour worked.
