The Position

Current Solano County Probation Department employees are invited to apply for this promotional opportunity!

The Senior Group Counselor provides lead supervision to others in the guidance, counseling, care and custody of juveniles during an assigned shift.

The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill full-time and part-time regular, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur or the need arises.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Experience: Two years of full-time work experience supervising juveniles in a juvenile detention facility;

AND

Education/Training: Completion of sixty (60) semester units is required, from an accredited college or university, preferably in criminology, social work, psychology, sociology or a closely related field and completion of the Juvenile Counselor Core Course certified by the California Board of Corrections Standards and Training for Correctional Programs; AND

Other: Must be a current Solano County Probation Department employee.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU

Solano County offers a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits, offered through CalPERS. The County contribution for family coverage for the 2019 calendar year is $1,498.09 per month. The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only or who waive medical insurance coverage. Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County.

Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement and contributes to Social Security.

Vacation is accrued at approximately 10 days per year for the first 3 years. Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year.

The County observes 12 fixed, paid holidays per year.

Employees are eligible to receive an additional 2.5% longevity pay, per level, after the completion of continuous service at 10, 20, 25, 30, and 35 years.

Extra-help employees who work less than 29 hours per week do not typically receive or accrue benefits of regular employees during their period of employment. All extra-help employees accrue .034 hours of Paid Time Off for every full hour worked.

All candidates must submit a copy of their official or unofficial transcripts (verifying the courses and units completed) and proof of competition of the Juvenile Counselor Core Course by the final filing deadline. Candidates who fail to submit these documents by the final filing date will be disqualified from the recruitment.

Special Requirements

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver's license is required.

Completion of Section 832 of the California State Penal Code training is required.

Possession of an American National Red Cross Standard First Aid and Personal Safety certificate is required. Successful completion of training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is required.

Peace Officers must meet minimum standards concerning citizenship, age, character, education and physical/mental condition as set forth in Section 1031 of the California Government Code.

Supplemental Information

Independent travel is required and on occasion may involve transporting a juvenile experiencing a medical emergency.

Incumbents must be able to work in a sometimes hostile environment; may be required to lift objects weighing more than 100 pounds with assistance; pursuant to Title 15, Division 1 of the California Administrative Code, incumbents will be required to successfully complete twenty four hours of annual training. Some positions in this class may require bilingual skills.
