The Position

Current Solano County employees are invited to apply for this promotional opportunity.

 

As an Office Assistant III, you may lead the work of other clerical support staff; perform a variety of complex and advanced clerical work in support of a functional work unit or program; receive and process information, by phone or in person, based upon needs of the programs to which assigned. You will handle a variety of sensitive and/or complex administrative matters using independent judgment in applying established practices and procedures; performs related work as directed.

The eligible list created as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill part-time and full-time regular, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur throughout the County.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

 

Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED; supplemented by two (2) years of full-time work experience that demonstrates possession of and competency in the requisite knowledge and abilities.  If assigned to a lead worker position, six (6) months of previous lead worker experience is required;

Certificates: An Intermediate Word certificate with a minimum score of 70% and Typing certificate (50 net WPM) are required for this position, and must be submitted no later than 5:00pm on the final filing date. Please see the "Document Submittal Requirements" section below for further details;

Other: Must be a current Solano County employee.

BENEFITS

Solano County offers a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits, offered through CalPERS. The County contribution for family coverage for the 2018 calendar year is $1,520.73 per month. The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only or who waive medical insurance coverage. Employees enrolled in Employee plus Two or More coverage receive a $50/month supplemental County contribution into the cafeteria plan. 

Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County. 

Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement and contributes to Social Security.    

Vacation is accrued at approximately 10 days per year for the first 3 years.

Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year.  

The County observes 12 fixed, paid holidays per year. 

Employees are eligible to receive an additional 2.5% longevity pay, per level, after the completion of continuous service at 10, 20, 25, 30, and 35 years.

Selection Process

05/23/18 – County Typing and Word Test

06/07/18 – Tentative date for Written Exam
 

Based on the information provided in the application documents, the qualified applicants may be invited for further examination and will either be pre-scheduled by the Department of Human Resources or be invited to self-schedule. All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. Depending upon the number of applications received, the selection process may consist of an initial application screening, a mandatory information meeting, a supplemental questionnaire assessment, a written and/or practical exam, an oral board exam, or any combination listed. Responses to supplemental questions may be used as screening and testing mechanisms and will be used to assess an applicant’s ability to advance in the process; as such, responses to supplemental questions should be treated as test examination responses. A minimum score of 70% is required to continue in the selection process, unless otherwise announced.

Document Submittal Requirements

This position requires submittal of a valid Typing Certificate and Word Processing Certificate. All candidates must submit a copy of their typing certificate and word processing certificate by the final filing deadline. Failure to submit the required certificates will result in immediate disqualification from further consideration in the recruitment process.

Certificate Requirements

Typing Certificate Requirements: The typing certificate must contain a minimum NET speed of 50 words per minute.  It must be a timed 3 - 5 minute test, include the gross number of words typed per minute, and the number of errors.  It may not be more than 12 months old at the time of application, and must be from an accredited school or a qualified agency with an examiner's signature.  Certificates obtained through the internet (online) will not be accepted.

Intermediate Word Requirements: The intermediate Word certificate must show intermediate proficiency at 70% or higher.  It may not be more than 12 months old at the time of application, and must be from an accredited school or qualified agency with an examiner's signature.  Certificates obtained through the internet(online) will not be accepted.

Certificate Testing

The County is offering a Typing and Word Processing test at no cost, for applicants only, on May 23, 2018, 9am-2pm, for the recruitment Office Assistant II recruitment only. This is the only date available. Interested applicants who have completed and submitted the recruitment application must send an email to recruitment@solanocounty.com no later than 2:00pm, May 18, 2018.

If applicants are unable to attend the County certificate testing, applicants must still submit a copy of a valid certificate by the final filing deadline. Test/certification results may not be more than 12-months old at the time of application, to include test results that were proctored by Solano County.
