Administrative Assistants to Executive/Senior Management(Administrative Secretary) provide responsible administrative support to the daily operations of a division manager, department head, or superior; handle a variety of sensitive and/or complex administrative matters using independent judgment in applying established practices and procedures; perform a wide variety of clerical, secretarial, and word processing duties; type, file, and distribute a variety of documents; respond to requests for information from board members, supervisory staff or public; perform related duties as required.
As an Administrative Assistant to a Department Head or Senior/Executive Manager, you will perform a variety of complex administrative support duties as a primary and continuing part of assigned responsibility. You may be responsible for on-going or re-occurring projects, supervising the work of clerical support staff, and/or secretarial work which require the application of specialized knowledge (such as document preparation and processing procedures). Incumbents have broad latitude in decision making and frequently make decisions without review.
The eligible list created as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill full-time and part-time regular, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur throughout the County.
High school diploma or GED
Three (3) years of full-time work experience in an administrative capacity supporting a professional or management position, including three (3) months experience working with and supporting a management or professional position that demonstrates possession of and competency in the requisite knowledge and abilities.
Three (3) years of full-time work experience as an Office Assistant III in Solano County.

The job classification for Administrative Assistant (Administrative Secretary) requires a minimum net typing speed of 50 words per minute (gross typing speed minus errors), Intermediate Word processing skills, and Intermediate Excel skills. By submitting an application for this recruitment, you are verifying that your computer skills meet or exceed the minimum requirements. All applicants invited to proceed in the recruitment will be required to submit verification of their skill level in these areas within five (5) days after receiving notification that they have achieved a passing score on the written exam. Applicants that do not submit verification of meeting the minimum computer skills requirements will be disqualified from advancing in the recruitment.

The County is offering Word, Excel and Typing tests at no cost, for applicants who are successful on the written exam on 5/24/18. This is the only date available. Instructions on how to request the County-provided skills test will be sent after written exam results are received. If applicants are unable to attend the County skills testing, applicants must still submit a copy of valid certificates within 5 days of receiving notification that they were successful on the written exam.

Test/certification results may not be more than 12-months old at the time of application, to include test results that were proctored by Solano County. A typing certificate must show a net typing speed of fifty (50) words per minute. A word processing certificate and Excel certificate must show proficiency at 70% at an intermediate level. These certificates may not be more than 12 months old at the time of application, must be from an accredited school or a qualified agency, and must contain the examiner’s signature. Certificates obtained through the internet (online) will not be accepted.
To be eligible, applicant must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions. A COPY OF THE DD 214, SHOWING DISCHARGE TYPE (GENERALLY COPY 4), MUST BE RECEIVED IN THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT BY THE FINAL FILING DATE. Applicants who have a service connected disability must also submit a recent award letter from the VA stating they are receiving disability benefits for service connected reasons.
Veteran applicants for initial County employment with an honorable or general under conditions discharge shall receive five (5) points added to their combined score. Disabled veterans rated at not less than 30% disability shall have ten (10) points added to their combined score. Veteran’s preference points will only be added to passing scores in competitive open examinations.
