Introduction

Solano County invites your interest in applying for College Internships.  The County currently has three positions with three different County Offices/Departments:

  • Auditor/Controller's
  • Human Resources
  • Probation

The College Intern salary range is from $17.50-$20.00/hour depending on the number of college units completed or Bachelor's Degree conferred:

- Lower Division Undergraduate Level - completion of 0 to 59 semester units (0 to 89-quarter units) $17.50/hour 
- Upper Division Undergraduate Level - completion of at least 60 semester units (90-quarter units) or conferred Bachelor's Degree within the past one year. $20.00/hour

The Position

College Intern positions offer college students practical work experience through projects, which are related to the student’s field of study.  College Students employed in this class may be assigned to various County departments.   This recruitment will be used to fill all current and future positions.  Below is a list of the current Intern opportunities:

 

AUDITOR/CONTROLLER 

Students will assist the department in compiling data for reconciliation and reporting purposes, extracting data out of the accounting system (including payroll and/or timekeeping systems), creating spreadsheets for specific purposes.  

Desired Majors: Accounting or closely related field  

Desired Grade Level: Lower Division Undergraduate 

PROBATION DEPARTMENT 

Under the direction of the Probation Project Manager, the intern will participate on the eProbation Project.  Tasks will include preparing for and participating in the weekly and monthly on-site project meetings, posting and managing action items on the eProbation Project site, utilizing work flow generation software to develop procedures and workflows

Desired Majors: Business Administration, Project Management, Information Technology, Criminal Justice 

Desired Grade Level: Lower Division Undergraduate, Upper Division Undergraduate  

HUMAN RESOURCES 

Students will assist in producing recruitment videos of 2-3 minutes in length.  Tasks will include digitally recording and photographing Solano County employees performing work activities, reading prepared scripts, creating video scripts

Desire Majors: Film, photography  

 Desired Grade Level: Lower Division Undergraduate, Upper Division Undergraduate  

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL INTERNSHIP POSITIONS

Experience: No experience required.

Education: In addition to submitting transcripts by the final filing deadline (see "Document Submittal Requirements" section below), proof of current enrollment in an accredited college or university for Fall 2018 or proof of conferred degree from an accredited college within the past one year is required.

BENEFITS

Extra-help employees who work less than 29 hours per week do not typically receive or accrue benefits of regular employees during their period of employment. All extra-help employees accrue .034 hours of Paid Time Off [Represented] Sick Leave [Unrepresented] for every full hour worked.

Based on the information provided in the application documents, the most qualified applicants will be invited for further examination.   All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. Proof of education is required by the final filing deadline. All candidates must submit a copy of their official/unofficial college transcripts.  Candidates who fail to submit their transcripts by the final filing date will be disqualified from the recruitment, unless otherwise specified in the job announcement. 

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:  Candidates who attended a college or university that is accredited by a foreign or non-U.S. accrediting agency must have their educational units evaluated by an educational evaluation service.  The result must be submitted to the Human Resources Department no later than the document deadlines above.  Please contact the local college or university to learn where this service can be obtained.
