Accounting Technician positions exist throughout the County and are an integral part of the County’s accounting/financial support infrastructure.  Whether the position is frontward facing and interacts with residents, such as in the Treasurer/Tax Collector/County Clerk’s Office, or focuses primarily on working with internal customers, accounting technicians perform advanced accounting, bookkeeping and statistical reporting and may lead over the work of a unit.

The Position

The Accounting Technician performs advanced accounting support, bookkeeping and statistical reporting and recording activities and/or leads the work of a unit performing these tasks; processes accounts payable and receivable; posts financial transactions to automated accounting system; researches and audits claims for accuracy and completeness; balances statements and produces fiscal reports; assists in budget preparation and projections; may assist in the development and implementation of an account records system and automated system; and performs related duties as required.  

The eligible list created as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill full-time and part-time regular, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur throughout the County. 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

Pattern A:

Education: An  A.A. in Business Administration  AND

Experience: 2 years of full-time work experience as an Accounting Clerk II or Accounting Clerk III in Solano County, or equivalent.

Pattern B:

Education: An A.S. in Accounting AND

Experience: 2 years of full-time work experience as an Accounting Clerk II or Accounting Clerk III in Solano County, or equivalent.

Pattern C:

Education: A total of 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college which must include 6 semester or 9 quarter units in principles of accounting AND

Experience: 2 years of full-time work experience as an Accounting Clerk II or Accounting Clerk III in Solano County, or equivalent.

BENEFITS

Solano County offers a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits, offered through CalPERS. The County contribution for family coverage for the 2017 calendar year is $1,430.11 per month. The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only or who waive medical insurance coverage. The County may offer a supplemental contribution for employees enrolled in Employee plus Two or More coverage.

Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County.   

Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement and contributes to Social Security.

 

The County observes 12 fixed, paid holidays per year.  

 

Vacation is accrued at approximately 10 days per year for the first 3 years.

 

Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year. 

  

Employees are eligible to receive an additional 2.5% longevity pay, per level, after the completion of continuous service at 10, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years.

 Extra-help employees who work less than 29 hours per week do not typically receive or accrue benefits of regular employees during their period of employment. All extra-help employees accrue .034 hours of Paid Time Off for every full hour worked.

The job classification for Accounting Technician requires Intermediate Excel skills. By submitting an application for this recruitment, you are verifying that your computer skills meet or exceed the minimum requirements.

Excel Testing: The County is offering an Excel test at no cost, for Accounting Technician applicants only, on April 16, 2018, for the Accounting Technician recruitment only. This is the only date available. Interested applicants who have completed and submitted the recruitment application must send an email to recruitment@solanocounty.com no later than 12:00pm on April 12, 2018 to request testing.

The certificate must show intermediate skill proficiency at 70% or higher.  It may not be more than 12 months old at the time of application, and must be from an accredited school or qualified agency with an examiner's signature.  Certificates obtained through the internet(online) will not be accepted. 

Candidates who do not submit verification of meeting the minimum computer skills requirements by the skills testing date of the submitted application review period will be disqualified from advancing in the recruitment. (Note: for those applying for the Final Application Review date, this deadline is 5pm 4/18/18.)

Based on the information provided in the application documents, the qualified applicants may be invited for further examination and will either be pre-scheduled by the Department of Human Resources or be invited to self-schedule. All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. Depending upon the number of applications received, the selection process may consist of an initial application screening, a mandatory information meeting, a written and/or practical exam, an oral board exam, or any combination listed. Veterans Preference Points

To be eligible, applicant must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions. A COPY OF THE DD 214, SHOWING DISCHARGE TYPE (GENERALLY COPY 4), MUST BE RECEIVED IN THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT BY THE FINAL FILING DATE.
