Housed within the Department of Information Technology, the Registrar of Voters conducts federal, state and local elections for the County.  Additionally, the Registrar of Voters is responsible for:

  • Conducting fair and impartial federal, state, local and school elections
  • Registering voters and maintaining voter registration records
  • Developing instructional materials and administering candidate nominations
  • Ensuring the timely filing of campaign disclosure statements
  • Acting as Filing Officer for statements of economic interests
  • Procuring polling places
  • Developing curriculum and training hundreds of poll workers
  • Providing outreach services for voter registration
  • Filing and verifying state and local initiative, referendum and recall petitions
  • Providing voter registration and election information to candidates and campaigns
  • Maintaining precinct and district maps
  • Canvassing and certifying the results of all elections

THE POSITION

The Election Technician (Lead) performs a wide variety of lead duties and tasks to support work in monitoring County election practices; data entry of voter registration records and absentee voting requests; compile candidate and voting information; assist with tabulation of elections; secure poll workers, polling places and materials; and assist with voting equipment testing, storage, maintenance and delivery.

This recruitment is intended to fill Election Technician (Lead) (Extra-Help) position.  Extra-help employees do not have rights to a regular position or continued employment and are excluded from civil service. The hours worked may be part-time or full-time, but hours cannot exceed more than 999 hours in a fiscal year. 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

 

Education: High school diploma or GED

 

Experience: Eighteen (18) months of full-time clerical work experience which included twelve (12) months in the preparation, processing, tracking and filing of election related information that demonstrates possession of and competency in the requisite knowledge and abilities.

SELECTION PROCESS

Based on the information provided in the application documents, the qualified applicants may be invited for further examination and will either be pre-scheduled by the Department of Human Resources or be invited to self-schedule. All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. Depending upon the number of applications received, the selection process may consist of an initial application screening, a mandatory information meeting, a supplemental questionnaire assessment, a written and/or practical exam, an oral board exam, or any combination listed. Responses to supplemental questions may be used as screening and testing mechanisms and will be used to assess an applicant’s ability to advance in the process; as such, responses to supplemental questions should be treated as test examination responses.
