The Position

Under general direction, the Chief District Attorney Investigator manages the Bureau of Investigations of the District Attorney's office; plans, organizes, coordinates and supervises the work involved in conducting investigations of criminal and civil law matters, subpoena services and crime victim assistance; and conducts the more complex or sensitive investigations of criminal and civil law matters.

 

A 4/10 modified work schedule is available in the District Attorney's Bureau of Investigation. 

This position is an "at-will" senior management position and is exempt from the civil service; incumbents serve at the discretion of the Appointing Authority. 

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Experience:

Five years of progressively responsible investigative and supervisory experience in a law enforcement agency. Note: To meet this experience requirement, the majority of time must have been spent performing duties or supervising others who are performing duties such as gathering evidence, interviewing and locating witnesses, investigating crime scenes, and writing reports of findings to be used in Court in the prosecution of defendants.  Incidental investigative work which is gained through performance of duties such as patrol, inmate custodial work, accident investigation, etc. is not considered qualifying. 

 

Education/Training:

Associate’s degree or equivalent, or higher from an accredited college is required. A Bachelor's degree or higher may be a factor considered during the rating and/or selection process.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of valid California P.O.S.T. Advanced and Supervisory certificates is required.
 

Completion of a certified Investigation and Trial Preparation Course is required within 12 months from date of hire.

Completion of a valid P.O.S.T. Management Course is required within 12 months from date of hire.

Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license is required.

Incumbents may be assigned to work outside of normal office hours.

Peace Officers must meet minimum standards concerning citizenship, age, character, education and physical/mental condition as set forth in Sections 1029 and 1031 of the California Government Code.

BENEFITS

Solano County offers a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits, offered through CalPERS. The County contribution for family coverage for the 2019 calendar year is $1,498.09 per month. The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only or who waive medical insurance coverage. The County may offer a supplemental contribution for employees enrolled in Employee plus Two or More coverage.

Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County.  

Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement and contributes to Social Security. 

Vacation is accrued at approximately 15 days per year for the first three years. Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year.

Effective July 1 of each year, employees are granted 80 hours of Administrative Leave. Unused Administrative Leave at the end of the Fiscal Year is converted and paid into the RHS in early July.

The County observes 12 fixed, paid holidays per year. 

Employees in this classification are also eligible to receive an additional 2.5% longevity pay, per level, after the completion of continuous service at 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 years. Employees may receive credit for prior years of service employed with California cities, counties, joint power authorities, and other special districts as approved by the Director of Human Resources and the County Administrator.

Week of 2/4/19 - Tentative week for oral panel interviews for most qualified applicants.
