The Hospital
San Joaquin General Hospital (SJGH), originally established in 1857, is a general acute care facility providing a full range of inpatient services including General Medical/Surgical Care, High-Risk Obstetrics and Neonatal Intensive Care, Pediatrics and Intensive Care. In addition to the 196-bed hospital, the medical campus includes multiple facilities dedicated to comprehensive outpatient services including Primary Care and Specialty Clinics. The Hospital's Ambulatory Care sites, including offices located at French Camp and Stockton provide over 1,340,000 outpatient clinic visits a year.

In addition to providing direct medical services, the hospital is active in providing education for health professionals through post-graduate residency programs in General Surgery, Internal Medicine and Family Practice and has trained over 3,000 physicians since the residency programs were established in 1932. The hospital also participates in clinical affiliation agreements for training programs in a variety of health professions including Registered and Licensed Vocational nurses, Pharmacists, Radiology Technologies, Social Workers and Respiratory Therapists.


Recruitment

This examination is being given to create a referral pool to fill one current part-time vacancy in the Laundry Department at San Joaquin General Hospital and will also be used to fill future part-time vacancies. 

Work schedules: 4:00am to 12:30pm or 8:00pm - 4:30am

Incumbents typically work 4 days during a seven day calendar week.  Rotating days off may be experienced depending upon the operational requirements of the department.

TYPICAL DUTIES

*Shakes out and sorts soiled laundry for washing; shakes out wet flat work and rough dry work after washing.

*Operates washer-extractors, loads with soiled linen and other laundry; monitors and maintains flow and supply of detergent, bleach, softener, neutralizers and liquid seal; unloads washers.

*Operates dryers; sets timer and cooling cycle on dryers.

*Operates steam tunnels in pressing uniforms, jackets, operating gowns, coats, trousers, shirts and other articles.

*Operates automatic folder; runs damp flat work through spreader and flat work ironer; finish folds flat work from flat work ironer.

*Operates small piece folder; finish-folds rough dry work.

*Sorts, counts and stacks clean laundry; loads laundry carts according to linen orders.

*Assembles, folds, and wraps surgery, obstetric and pediatric linen packs; inspects for damaged or worn items; inserts indicator in each pack for sterilization process.

*Assists in the loading, unloading and distribution of soiled and cleaned laundry and linens.

*Maintains simple records as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:  Six months of work involving cleaning, laundry, routine maintenance or other kinds of manual labor.

KNOWLEDGE

Basic safety principles and practices.

ABILITY

Read, write and understand English; operate heavy duty washers, tumbler dryers and operate steam tunnels; pick up and deliver laundry from and to various locations; understand and follow oral and written instructions; keep routine records; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; lift and move heavy loads or objects; work in a warm humid environment
