This recruitment is being held to fill one part-time vacancy in the Purchasing and Support Services department and to establish a referral pool to fill future vacancies. Purchasing and Support Services is an Internal Services Fund Division of the County Administrator's Office and provides vital support services to County departments for procurement of goods, materials and services, centralized mail services, full service printing, records management and recycling functions, and disposition of surplus of County property.
The Purchasing and Support Services mission is to ensure the most value for the taxpayer's dollars by providing consistent, high-quality, and professional services that are timely, transparent, fair, and honest, while treating all parties with respect and dignity, and providing a high level of customer service.
- Purchasing - Provides core procurement services to County departments to obtain cost reductions by seeking competitive quotes, bids, proposals, and negotiations.
- Duplicating (Print Shop) - Offers full printing services to County departments.
- Mail Room - Services 51 locations, including outlying and various locations throughout San Joaquin County and collects and stages items for recycling.
- Records Management - Records storage warehouse and services including storage, retrieval, deliver, and destruction.

Education: Completion of 60 semester units from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in public or business administration, political science, economics, or other field with emphasis in commercial subjects.
Experience: Two years experience equivalent to Specialist Clerk in

The principles and practices of business administration; record keeping principles and techniques; methods of locating and verifying information, and of using source material; public relations techniques.
Read, understand and apply written regulations and other job-related materials; understand and follow written and oral instructions; review work for accuracy and procedural conformance; learn and apply the principles and practices used in the purchasing of commodities; establish and maintain effective working relations with a variety of individuals including operating departments and vendor representatives.

Pre-employment Drug Screening Exam: Some classifications require a new employee successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen as a condition of employment. Final appointment cannot be made until the eligible has passed the drug screen. The County pays for the initial drug screen.
Employment of Relatives: Applicants who are relatives of employees in a department within the 3rd degree of relationship, (parent, child, grandparent, grandchild or sibling) either by blood or marriage, may not be appointed, promoted, transferred into or within the department when:
They are related to the Appointing Authority, or
The employment would result in one of them supervising the work of the other
Department Heads may establish additional limitations on the hiring of relatives by departmental rule.
