This recruitment is being conducted for upcoming temporary opportunities with the San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office for those that are scheduled to graduate from law school in the Spring of 2021 and plan to take the July 2021 California Bar Exam. The temporary assignments will take place from August 2021 to December 2021 and will include doing legal research, writing motions, assisting trial attorneys and working on special projects for the District Attorney's Office.
Please note: Appointments will not be made until there is confirmation of graduation from a recognized school of law.

Education: Graduation from a recognized school of law.
Some knowledge of the principles of law and their application. Some knowledge of trial procedures and the rules of evidence. Some knowledge of legal research methods and the preparation of briefs and opinions. Some knowledge of county government functions and legal responsibilities.
Analyze, apply legal principles, facts, evidence, and precedents to legal problems. Ability to present statements of law, fact and argument clearly and logically in written and oral form. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious and cooperative relationships with fellow staff members, departmental representatives, and the general public. Ability to perform research and prepare legal opinions.

Pre-employment Drug Screening Exam: Some classifications require a new employee successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen as a condition of employment. Final appointment cannot be made until the eligible has passed the drug screen. The County pays for the initial drug screen.
Employment of Relatives: Applicants who are relatives of employees in a department within the 3rd degree of relationship, (parent, child, grandparent, grandchild or sibling) either by blood or marriage, may not be appointed, promoted, transferred into or within the department when:
They are related to the Appointing Authority, or
The employment would result in one of them supervising the work of the other
Department Heads may establish additional limitations on the hiring of relatives by departmental rule.
