Introduction

An exciting leadership opportunity awaits you at San Joaquin General Hospital.  The hospital is seeking a Deputy Director -Trauma to provide overall management of the Trauma Program.  In concert with the Trauma Medical Director, this key management position will be responsible for planning, coordinating, directing, and evaluating the Trauma Program by maintaining Level II Trauma standards of care, practice, and performance.  The Trauma Nurse Director will work collaboratively with hospital personnel and medical staff to achieve the hospital's goals of providing efficient, effective, culturally sensitive care to trauma patients while focusing on the patients, physicians, employees, and the community as customers.

DEFINITION

Under administrative direction, plans, organizes, and directs the San Joaquin General Hospital Trauma Program; and does related or other work as required.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

The class of Deputy Director – Trauma is exempt from the San Joaquin County Civil Service System and is an at-will position.  The incumbent reports to the Chief Nursing Officer of San Joaquin General Hospital and performs a broad spectrum of senior-level managerial duties, and is responsible for planning, organizing, leading, administering and directing assigned budgets, functions, and activities to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and  policies established by San Joaquin General Hospital Trauma Program.  The incumbent is expected to model a strong work ethic and management skills, including accountability for one-self and others.  Assignments are carried out with considerable independence and will interface extensively with external agencies and may represent Nursing Administration.

KNOWLEDGE

Management principles and practices including methods of planning, organizing, staffing, leading, and controlling; budget preparation and monitoring; professional nursing theory and techniques; hospital functions; goals of patient care; hospital and trauma center safety principles and practices; hospital trauma center licensing and certification requirements; current medical treatment methods, standards, equipment, and supplies; current trends in nursing.

ABILITY

Exercise analytical and critical thinking skills, exercise good judgment and make sound managerial decisions; provide effective and efficient management advice and in a rapid and high pace trauma emergency environment.
