Introduction
This examination is being given to fill two vacancies in the Therapy Services Department in San Joaquin General Hospital and to establish a referral pool to fill future vacancies. POSITION DESCRIPTIONS
Physical Therapist: This is the first licensed level in the Physical Therapist series. Incumbents perform a variety of physical therapy services including assessment, planning, and treatment. Initially, incumbents work under general supervision, but as experience is gained, may exercise more latitude and judgment and may be assigned to mentor less experienced physical therapists and/or students.
Physical Therapist - Senior: This is the second level licensed class in the Physical Therapist Series. Incumbents utilize an advanced level of clinical skill while performing a variety of physical therapy services, including assessment, planning, and treatment. Incumbents may assist with instructing other physical therapy staff.
Physical Therapist - Clinical: This is the clinical specialist licensed level in the Physical Therapist Series. An incumbent of this highly skilled class performs a wide variety of duties related to the provision of physical therapy to patients and education of other staff. A clinical specialist is certified in various treatment techniques. Additionally, incumbents complete an annual clinical project which must be presented and accepted to maintain standing as a Clinical Specialist.

KNOWLEDGE
Current physical therapy theory, principles, methods, and equipment; anatomy and physiology; principles of psychological and physiological problems of persons with disabling conditions; principles of clinical supervision; medical terminology; basic medical record keeping; basic computer operations, including pertinent software.
ABILITY
Organize and implement physical therapy treatment programs; teach techniques of treatment in specialty areas; conduct individual and group treatment programs; interpret and adapt physician’s orders and/or written reports; gather, analyze, interpret and report statistical data; prepare complex written reports; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with patients, parents, caregivers, staff and others; teach advanced therapeutic techniques and modalities to others; direct the work of others, including physical therapy services provided by para-professional staff; interpret and implement regulatory standards; utilize computers and office automation equipment; complete accurate medical records and/or charts.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Mobility - operation of a data entry device; frequent standing for long periods; occasional sitting; constant walking; occasional pushing/pulling; frequent bending/squatting; Lifting - occasional lifting of 5 to 50 pounds; restraining, lifting/turning, transferring people; Vision - frequent color perception; occasional eye/hand coordination, peripheral vision and depth perception; frequent reading; Dexterity - frequent holding and occasional repetitive motion; frequent reaching, grasping and writing; occasional manual operation of equipment and hand tools; Hearing/Talking - constant hearing normal speech, talking in person, talking on the telephone; frequent hearing on the telephone and hearing faint sounds; Special Requirements - may require occasional overtime, and weekend or evening work; Emotional/Psychological - occasional emergency situations; occasional exposure to trauma, grief and death, occasional exposure to depression and psychiatric disorders in patients; constant public contact and decision making; frequent concentration required; Environmental - occasional exposure to noise; may be exposed to varied indoor temperatures, occasional exposure to cleaning agents.

Selection Procedures
Applicants for part-time and temporary recruitments who meet the minimum qualifications are either referred to the hiring department for further selection or they may be required to take a written examination. If a written examination is given, the top candidates may be referred to the hiring department for further selection.

Physical Exam: Some classifications require physical examinations. Final appointment cannot be made until the eligible has passed the physical examination. The County pays for physical examinations administered in its medical facilities.
Pre-employment Drug Screening Exam: Some classifications require a new employee successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen as a condition of employment. Final appointment cannot be made until the eligible has passed the drug screen. The County pays for the initial drug screen.
Employment of Relatives: Applicants who are relatives of employees in a department within the 3rd degree of relationship, (parent, child, grandparent, grandchild or sibling) either by blood or marriage, may not be appointed, promoted, transferred into or within the department when:

The employment would result in one of them supervising the work of the other
Department Heads may establish additional limitations on the hiring of relatives by departmental rule.
