Introduction

Position:

The Department of Technology is the centralized technology services provider within San Francisco City & County government, delivering technology infrastructure and services to approximately 33,000 employees and 800,000 residents. The department has an annual operating budget of over $130M and contains over 220 employees. Core service areas include: Infrastructure and Operations, Technology Security, Service Delivery & Management, Enterprise Applications, Project Management Office, Public Safety Systems & Wiring, Technology Administration, Policy & Governance and IT Public Communications. 

 

The City and County of San Francisco’s Office of Civic Innovation is looking for a Program Intern to work for approximately 3-6 months on a part-time or full-time basis at our office in Civic Center.

 

We’re a small team with a big vision: we believe in making government more collaborative, inventive, and responsive to San Franciscans. Our team supports City priorities by introducing new approaches, resources, and technologies to City Departments. This position will be working with the Office of Civic Innovation team to support our partnership programs, Civic Bridge and Startup in Residence.

 

We seek team members that are self-starters with an ability to embrace complexity and uncertainty with a sense of curiosity and empathy. Our team is passionate about public service and bringing modern, human-centered practices into government.

 

Position Duties: 

  • Research, design and develop resources for sharing partnership project outcomes, assets and successes with City Departments, Partners and other cities, i.e. case studies, partner recruitment materials, impact reports.
  • Support the administration of our “Day of Service” initiative, a one-day skills-based volunteering event
  • Support the creation and implementation of knowledge-sharing events, such as brown bag learning events, skill-shares, etc.
  • Support the administration, execution and evaluation of partnership programs, Civic Bridge and Startup in Residence
  • Maintain current and accurate information about all program applicants, participants, and project progress
  • Writing support on storytelling, grant writing, and other program communications

Job Type:

The Temporary Exempt - Full Time position is excluded by the Charter from the competitive civil service examination process and shall serve at the discretion of the appointing officer. The anticipated duration of this project position is 6 (6) months and will not result in an eligible list or permanent civil service hiring.

 

Nature of Work:

Incumbent must be willing to work a schedule as determined by the department from 20 to 40 hours per week.  Travel within San Francisco may be required..

 

Work Location:
Incumbent will conduct the majority of work at the Department of Technology, 1 South Van Ness, 2nd Floor, San Francisco, CA 94103. However, there may be situations where the incumbent will be required to work at other sites throughout the City of San Francisco as necessary.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

Experiences:

  • 1-5 years work experience in a professional setting
  • Project management and/or event management
  • Writing experience
  • Exceptional communication skills, written and verbal
  •  Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Powerpoint, Google Docs Suite

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Clear and effective verbal and written communications
  • Ability to tailor language, tone, style and format to match the audience
  • Demonstrate openness in sharing information and keeping people informed
  • Entrepreneurial self-starter who have experience with human-centered design and project management
  • Embrace complexity, uncertainty. Adaptable to change
  • Strong empathy, communication and collaboration skills
