CLASS 7334 STATIONARY ENGINEER
Type of Appointment: Temporary Exempt - One year project
The Department of Public Health - Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital - Facilities Department, is seeking to fill two full time exempt status positions in class 7334 Stationary Engineer, to function as Watch Engineers.
Under general supervision, the Stationary Engineer operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs a wide variety of pumping, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration and auxiliary plant machinery and equipment in a large complex or multi-faceted facility. Ensures that all equipment, machinery and systems are functioning normally and safely, and complies with all applicable safety rules and regulations.
Note: This applicant pool may also be used to fill other temporary exempt as needed vacancies in the Department.
Four (4) years of verified journey-level stationary engineer experience in the maintenance, repair and operation of a variety of mechanical and electrical pumping, heating, air conditioning, ventilating and related plant machinery used in a government establishment, hospital, industrial, production or commercial building; AND
License and Certification:
Possession of a valid California Driver’s License AND
Possession at time of hire a Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certificate issued by the Federal Environmental Protection Agency.
Any of the following may be substituted for the required experience:
• Completion of a recognized four-year Stationary Engineer apprenticeship program
• Graduation from a recognized four-year Maritime Academy with a degree in engineering or technology
• Possession of at least a 3rd Assistant Marine Engineer's License of any (unrestricted) horsepower
The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify job finalists at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.
- Prefer extensive experience in the repair of large mechanical systems like boilers, chillers, large air compressors, piping systems, electrical and refrigeration systems.
- Prefer experience in motor balancing, vibration analysis and thermography.
- Prefer proficiency in the use of shop tools including lathes, mills and proficient in welding procedures.
- Prefer experience in a hospital setting.
- Prefer a Maritime Academy graduate.
- Willingness to work a 12 hour rotating shift.

Drug Testing Requirement:

Some positions in the Department of Public Health will require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to gloves, gowns, eye and face protection, and face-fitting respirators. The requirement for the use of PPE may come on short or no notice. Facial hair or any condition that interferes with a face-fitting respirator’s seal (i.e. comes between the sealing surfaces of the respirator and the wearer’s bare skin) is not permitted when face-fitting respirators are worn, including during initial or periodic respirator fit-testing.
