Under the direction of the Harbormaster, the 3232 Marina Assistant Manager is an entry level position that acts as a harbor attendant responsible for patrolling and providing security for marina-owned facilities and equipment, including boats berthed at the marina and /or providing assistance in a Harbor Office setting. The essential functions of this position include:
providing a visible presence to prevent theft and acts of vandalism;
checking boats in assigned berths for proper and adequate securing;
inspecting harbor facilities for damage or hazardous conditions;
generating work orders for major repairs;
performing routine maintenance on docks and facilities;
power washing of docks;
acting on immediate-need and/or emergency situations as they ariseadministering first aid and/or CPR;
interacting with a variety of people on issues related to boating safety, weather and tourist information;
educating public and/or enforcing Marina Rules and Regulations governing the use and safety of the marina;
receiving and responding to complaints;
working in the Harbor office to provide information and services to marina customers, including calculating and accepting payments and making change;
maintaining records of activities;
assisting in coordinating marina activities with other individuals/agencies;
preventing theft, vandalism, damage, trespassing, and pollution;
operating marina work boat while performing security, maintenance or towing duties;
operating VHF radio and or other electronic communication equipment;
assigning temporary berths to boaters and collecting monies paid for berth rentals and performing related duties as required.
This position may require incumbent to work shift assignments, weekends and holidays and work in adverse weather conditions. Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
- ability to swim unassisted at least twenty-five (25) yards in deep water;
- ability to lift objects weighing up to thirty-five (35) pounds;
- ability to stand and walk on uneven and/or moving surfaces, such as docks and boats, and ability to maintain balance while extending reach over water at awkward angles.
One year (2,000 hours) of verifiable experience in the operation of a marina yacht harbor, commercial fishing harbor, or equivalent facility. Such experience must have included: patrolling and inspecting docks and facilities; performing routine electrical, plumbing and mechanical maintenance; general use of hand and power tools and pumps; routine report writing; operation of small sail, power/non-power driven craft; AND
Possession of a valid Standard First Aid Certificate; AND
Possession of a valid CPR Certificate; AND
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Licenses and certificates must be current (valid) as of the date required for submission. Invalid (expired) certificates will not be considered qualifying. Failure to maintain the required certificates and license after appointment may result in the dismissal and/or termination of employment.
