Appointment Type: Temporary Exempt (Category 18). In accordance with San Francisco Charter Section 10.104, exempt employees serve at the discretion of the appointing authority. The duration is through 6/30/2021, with a possibility of extension.
The San Francisco Department of Public Health (DPH) is accepting applications for full-time temporary exempt positions in class 2588 Health Worker 4.
The qualified applicant pool resulting from this recruitment may be utilized to fill vacancies at various locations within DPH.
Under general supervision, the 2588 Health Worker 4, supervises, coordinates, and instructs a staff of paraprofessional workers in a service program of the Department of Public Health. The essential duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Must be competent using Microsoft platforms (i.e. Word, Excel). If other platforms are required training will be provided;
- Communicates in a culturally and linguistically appropriate, professional, and empathetic manner. · Manages projects and/or programs in collaboration with other staff;
- Supervises staff including clerks, health workers, and others as needed;
- Provides health education and medical and community linkages to community members;
- Acts as primary point person to call people with a positive diagnostic test for COVID-19 (known as cases), provide support and gather information including information about the disease. May also be responsible for interviewing and providing support to close contacts within the household;
- Participates as part of multi-disciplinary outbreak response and management team in conducting site visits and assessments and activities related to monitoring and managing outbreaks at congregate living sites;
- Collects and records information from interviews with cases into SFDPH’s case investigation web-based data collection application platform;
- Provides cases with information about isolation and quarantine, based on SFDPH guidelines, and if determined to be needed, refer to isolation and quarantine support colleagues;
- Triages and coordinates next steps for care and isolation for individuals the person has been in contact with;
- Contributes to development of standard work and protocols, follows standard work and protocols and documentation;
- Provides logistics and operational support for sites or programs; and
- Manages clinical inventory of sites and orders, delivers needed supplies;
The 2588 Health Worker 4 performs other related duties as assigned/required.
- Some weekend shifts (rotating coverage)
- Mostly 8-hour shifts but could include 12 hour shifts
- 8 hour day shifts with alternating weekends
- Environment of care may be in COVID positive setting. Proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and training will be provided
Three (3) years of verifiable experience within the last five (5) years, performing a combination of at least two (2) of the following duties: Serving as a liaison between targeted communities and healthcare agencies; providing culturally appropriate health education /information and outreach to targeted populations; providing referral and follow up services or otherwise coordinating care; providing informal counseling, social support and advocacy to targeted populations; escorting and transporting clients; providing courier/dispatcher functions; performing pre-clinical examinations of vital statistics, such as measuring a patient’s weight, height, temperature and blood pressure.
Possession of a Community Health Worker Certificate from City College of San Francisco can substitute for 6 months of experience.
One year full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40 hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above 40 hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.
