APPOINTMENT TYPE: Temporary Exempt (TEX), this position is excluded by the Charter from the competitive Civil Service examination process and shall serve at the discretion of the Appointing Officer.
The Reproduction & Mail Services Division (ReproMail) is the City & County of San Francisco's central printing and mailing facility offering services to all City Departments. All of ReproMail employees are cross-trained to partake in all areas of production and delivery.
Under direct supervision, the 1760 Print/Mail Machine Operator operates multiple printing, bindery and/or mailing equipment.
1. Operates, sets up, and adjusts printing, mailing and bindery equipment.
2. Maintains machines in good working order by cleaning, greasing and oiling; performs minor repairs when necessary; keeps work and storage areas orderly.
3. Records and reports progress of work.
4. Controls inventory; requisitions and acquires materials and supplies.
5. May perform printing-related clerical, bindery, finishing, and other tasks.
Two (2) years of recent experience in the operation of an offset machine and/or high speed digital production printer (including bindery) in a reprographic or production center environment.
Special Requirements: Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment: physical effort and manual dexterity in the operation and maintenance of offset or other related equipment. May be required to perform heaving lifting of at least 50 pounds.
1. Advanced knowledge of digital high volume reprographics equipment and procedures, with the ability to recommend options to clients.
2. Ability to troubleshoot files submitted electronically, to maintain layout and color integrity production output.
3. Expert knowledge of digital print server software (Fiery, Splash, etc.) and web-based job submission tools
4. Experience operating high volume mailing equipment
5. Ability to operate finishing equipment (3-hole drills, folders, cutters, etc.)
