Permanent-Exempt. This position is exempt from Civil Service Commission rules pursuant to the City and County of San Francisco, Charter Section 10.104, and incumbents serve at the discretion of the Appointing Officer.

Under general supervision, the role of the Building Information Modeling (BIM) Manager will be to provide overall direction for the Infrastructure Division. Establishment of Division goals and objectives and assist with project budgets. Manage BIM related education and development. This role will champion the use of BIM, related project delivery processes and promote the same to Infrastructure leadership. The BIM Manager will work closely with Information Technology leadership and other SFPUC Managers.
What you will be doing:
• Developing strategy to align with the divisional BIM initiative.
• Implementing Division wide BIM strategies to support identified goals.
• Developing, training and retaining a high performing team.
• Innovating project execution processes through leading research and development exercises.
• Educating both internal and external stakeholder(s) on Infrastructure BIM program.
• Developing work processes to insure model content is useful and meaningful.
• Reporting to management on Division’s current and projected state with respect to BIM implementation.
• Facilitating the relationship between all design disciplines to develop tools and practices which benefit the project delivery process.
• Coordinating with IT on requirements and schedules for budgeting, procurement and roll-out of new and updated BIM associated software.
• Working with IT to identify requirements for the development of custom applications and/or other customized software to meet the needs of specific markets and the Division.
• Assisting with or lead the development of standard practices to improve design/production efficiency using technology.
• Coordinating BIM efforts with other SFPUC groups.
• Ensuring consistent use of BIM across projects.
Class 9976 - Technology Expert I performs other related duties as required.
These minimum qualifications establish the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license(s) which are required for employment in the classification. 1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Science, or related field;
2. Six (6) years of Building Information Modeling (BIM) leadership experience, including the following:
Experience of BIM technologies with an understanding of the direction of BIM and its impact on the AEC industry.
Experience using AutoCAD, Revit and other design technologies with direct experience using prior and current versions.
Experience with project extranets and virtual collaboration technologies.
Experience of current VDC/BIM applications, related systems, and network infrastructure.
Experience with project workflows (schematic design, design development, construction documentation phases) and basic project management.
Supervising a team; including management of schedules, training, and mentoring.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of the organization both written and verbal.
Strong, self-motivated work ethic with ability to be effective and timely while providing consistent follow up.
