Project: L Taraval Improvement Projects (SF Zoo to Forest Side Ave.)

The L Taraval Improvement Project is a project in conjunction with SFMTA to rehabilitate the Taraval street corridor. This is in response to numerous collisions and reported safety concerns as well as outdated infrastructure. This specific phase of the improvement project consists of water and sewer line replacement from Sunset Blvd from 2019 to 2021. The Senior Construction Inspector is needed for this project to ensure compliance with contract plans, specifications, applicable codes and safety regulations of the newly installed water/sewer lines for the project. 

Position Summary: 

Under the general direction of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, Infrastructure Division, Construction Management Bureau Manager:  Performs supervision of subordinate Construction Inspectors assigned to the project; Ensures that quality assurance is developed and enforced; and Performs highly technical and special inspections for the L Taraval Improvement Project.  

Essential Duties relating to the project:

  • Supervises and assigns the work of Construction Inspectors in performing general inspections of civil/electrical/mechanical construction activities to ensure conformance with the contract bid documents such as concrete formwork construction, concrete reinforcement placement, trench excavation, pipe placement, back fill placement and compaction, underground tank installations, water pump & piping system installations including test & start-up, electrical transformer installation, electrical power and control wiring installations, etc.;
  • Performs inspections on special technical systems such as supervisor control and data acquisition systems (SCADA), special welding, water filtration & treatment system installations, security surveillance equipment installations, etc.;
  • Initiates, prepares, estimates, reviews and negotiates change orders;
  • Resolves disputes & difficult problems, and responds to complaints from the public that requires resolution at the senior level;
  • Prepares and maintains project documentation & controls;
  • Reviews plans, specs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, constructability reviews and contract close-out records;
  • Reports safety and traffic hazards, defective work for correction; among others.
  • Maybe assigned to other duties as required.

Work Conditions: This position will require climbing ladders and/or crawling into tight spaces such as pipelines and tunnels.  This position will be assigned throughout the Bureau’s local and regional projects according to the Bureau’s resource staffing needs.  This position may require assignments remote from San Francisco, and may require travel with overnight or multiple-night stays at remote areas.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Two (2) years of verifiable full-time experience equivalent to the level of City and County of San Francisco class 6318 Construction Inspector; OR

2. Six (6) years of verifiable full-time experience in construction inspection work insuring that plans and specifications are complied with, and the workmanship and material used meet specifications.

Notes:

1. Most positions require a valid California driver's license.

2. May be required to work under extreme weather conditions such as heat or cold, climb ladders, walk on uneven surfaces and/or stand for a long duration.

Selection Plan

Minimum Qualifications Supplemental Questionnaire (MQSQ - Qualifying)
