San Francisco International Airport has a robust internship program and hosts nearly 200 interns annually. Our Summer High School Interns will work 20 hours per week from June 2019-August 2019, in one of the many offices at the airport. Each intern will work directly with an SFO Mentor who will give them daily tasks and larger scale projects. Interns will also be given the opportunity to attend tours of SFO, Meet and Greets with Airport leadership, and other workshops and events aimed at professional development. Internship is scheduled to begin in June 2019 and end in August 2019. This is a 10 week internship. The basic work week is 20 hours per week. The schedule will be 20 hours a week between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm. Those enrolled in daily summer school classes should consider whether their school schedule will allow them to work 20 hours per week during the days and hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., including travel time to and from the airport.
Please note, interns are not permitted to request more than five business days for vacation, summer school, or other activities during the duration of the internship.
Interns must attend mandatory workshops, trainings, and orientation sessions.
- Applicant must be enrolled in high school or have received a high school diploma no more than 6 months prior; AND
- Applicant must be at least 16 years old by June 1, 2019. There are no exceptions; AND
- Applicant must possess a Social Security Card, valid picture identification, and documents that establish both identity and employment eligibility such as a birth certificate, state issued proof of identity or proof of legal rights to work in the United States.
- All applicants must commit to 20 hours per week and not plan on missing more than five business consecutive due to vacation, summer school or other activities.
- Graduating seniors are eligible to apply for this internship.

The selection process will include evaluation of applications in relation to minimum requirements. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement to the interview. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Clearance:
Candidates for employment with the San Francisco Airport Commission are required to undergo a criminal history record check, including FBI fingerprints, and Security Threat Assessment in order to determine eligibility for security clearance and may be required to undergo drug/alcohol screening. Per Civil Service Commission Rule Section 110.9.1, every applicant for an examination must possess and maintain the qualifications required by law and by the examination announcement for the examination. Failure to obtain and maintain security clearance may be basis for termination from employment with the Airport Commission.
As a finalist for a job, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction (or arrest, in limited circumstances) conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you are a finalist. If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances, such as:

Disaster Service Workers
