San Francisco Public Works is seeking to fill a permanent exempt, category 18 position. The position is excluded by the Charter from competitive civil service examination process. The successful candidate shall serve at the discretion of the appointing officer.

It designs, builds, operates, maintains, cleans, greens, and improves the City's infrastructure, public rights of way and facilities with skill, pride, and responsiveness in partnership with the community. Public Works has about 1,400 employees, an annual budget of $259.4 million, and manages or provides consulting services to a $4.8 billion portfolio of City and County building and infrastructure capital improvement projects.
BDC is seeking an exempt 5304 Material Testing Aide
The materials testing aide performs material testing of a variety of construction materials in the field or in the laboratory; uses a variety of sophisticated materials testing equipment; collects samples of materials to be tested and performs related duties as required.
Supervision Exercised / Received
Under general supervision from the field or lab supervisor, performs lab or field tests such as:
- concrete sampling and compressive strength of concrete.
- field moisture density testing of soils and aggregates.
- sampling of construction materials.
· Ensures that all samples received are identified and tested in accordance with standards and established procedures.
· Perform field tests as scheduled and reports unusual conditions to supervisor.
· Maintains test equipment in good condition.
· Reports all test results to supervisor.
· Calculate test results.
Education: High school diploma
Experience: No prior experience required.
Certification: Current California Drivers License
• ACI Field Certification(s)
• ACI Laboratory Certification(s)
• Nuclear Gauge Safety Certification
• Ability to lift up to 70 lbs. Able to work for extended periods on uneven ground and in inclement weather.
