As the 2636 School Food Service Area Supervisor, you will report to the Operations Manager, and be a part of the Student Nutrition Services Department. You will assume responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the District's school lunchrooms; supervise and coordinate the activities of nutrition staff; establish and maintain effective working relationships and communications between principals, cafeteria personnel and administrators; supervise and plan the work and assignment areas of Lead Student Nutrition Worker's; supervise the preparation and establishment of menus, special needs diets and food utilization rules and standards; and develop and implement training plans for cafeteria employees.







  • Monitors district food service policies and practices to ensure conformance with modern institutional food service management theory and practice in compliance with Federal, State and Local government regulations.
  • Supervises the administration of the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program and After School Snack Program, ensuring compliance regulations are met and maintained.
  • Assists in the monitoring of all program fiscal activities, including preparation of the annual budget, financial and managerial reporting, cost analyses, and revenue reconciliation.
  • Assists in food and service contracting, procurement, menu planning and development, new product development, nutrient analyses, special needs diets, storekeeping and distribution.
  • Directs and monitors department-wide food safety and sanitation programs and practices, in compliance with federal and state regulation incorporating principles of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP).
  • Directs and supervises directly, and through subordinate Lead Student Nutrition Worker's, nutritional staff, personnel management, employee relations, communications with federal, state and local government personnel, parent and community relations.











    Minimum Qualifications

    ● Experience: Two years of supervisory experience in an institutional culinary operation involving planning, preparing and serving food in large quantities. Experience acquired in commercial restaurants is not considered qualifying; AND

     ● Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited university; completed course work in hotel and restaurant administration, business or public administration, or home economics and nutrition.

    ● Substitution for education: Additional qualifying experience as stated under the experience requirement may be substituted for four (4) years of the required education on a year-for-year basis (30 semester/45 quarter units equals one year).  




    Additional Requirements

     ● Possession of a valid California Driver's License and maintain insurability.

    ● Possession of a valid Food Safety Certification.

    ● Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment: Ability to work in a standard office environment, some heavy lifting and frequent driving to work sites.


    Conviction History

    As a finalist for a job, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction (or arrest, in limited circumstances) conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you are a finalist. If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances, such as:

    • Candidates for positions with the Unified School District and the Community College District may be disqualified from consideration should their conviction history not meet the standards established under the California Education Code.
    • Candidates for positions with the Recreation and Park Department may be disqualified from consideration should their conviction history not meet the standards established under California Public Resources Code 5164.

    Having a conviction history does not automatically preclude you from a job with the City.

    If you are selected as a finalist, the hiring department will contact you to schedule a fingerprinting appointment.

    Disaster Service Workers

    All City and County of San Francisco employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
