Under direction, this class performs moderately complex, accounting duties including but not limited to: analyzes, examines, interprets City accounting records and policies and procedures; prepares, reviews and analyzes accounting records, transactions and reports; analyzes source documents, maintains ledgers, records entries, prepares cash receipt reports, makes deposits, identifies and allocates revenue and expenditures; presents and explains accounting activity to financial and non-financial managers, co-workers and clients; provides accounting services and technical assistance to resolve issues.
Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with eighteen (18) semester units or twenty-four (24) quarter units of coursework in accounting; AND successful completion of the City and County of San Francisco 1649 Accountant Intern Program. 1. There is no substitution or waiver granted for the required successful completion of the 1649 Accountant Intern Program.
2. Candidates who successfully completed the City and County of San Francisco 1649 Accountant Intern Program more than 12 months prior to filing their 1652 application and/or who did not successfully complete probation in Class 1652 may be required to apply for and repeat all or a portion of the 1649 Accountant Intern Program before being admitted to the 1652 examination process.

Computer kiosks are located in the lobby of the Department of Human Resources, One South Van Ness Avenue, 4th Floor, San Francisco, for use by the public. The hours of operation are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The names of all candidates meeting the Minimum Qualifications will be placed on the eligible list for referral to hiring departments. Candidate’s scores and ranks on the list will be determined by written evaluations received during the Accountant Intern Program, their time in Class 1652, an oral performance test, or any combination of these assessments. Candidates will be evaluated to measure their relative knowledge, skill and ability level in job-related areas which may include but not be limited to: accounts payable processes, encumbrances, purchasing, revenue processes, FAMIS Accounting System, ADPICS, financial analysis and reports, general ledger, budget processes, payroll/personnel processes, oral and written communication, Federal and State grant/reimbursement processes, knowledge of legal authorities, and operation of personal computers, word-processing and spreadsheet software.
Candidates must receive at least a competent and effective rating in the selection process(es) in order to have their names placed on the eligible list.
The City and County of San Francisco provides continuous recruitment for Class 1652 Accountant II. Applications are accepted on a continuous basis. A cut-off date will be established to administer the selection process(es) to qualified candidates and to establish an eligible list. The cut-off dates will be based on date(s) of graduation from the Accountant Intern Program. Applications from successful interns who graduated after the cut-off date, or incomplete applications will be processed at a later date.
CERTIFICATION RULE: The certification/referral rule will be Rule of three (3) scores. Departments may utilize additional selection procedures to make final hiring decisions.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION AND TRANSPORTATION SECURITY ADMINISTRATION (TSA) SECURITY CLEARANCE: Positions with the San Francisco Airport Commission that require security clearance prior to employment will be required to have a thorough background investigation to determine the candidate’s suitability for employment. The background investigation will also meet Transportation Security Administration requirements (TSA Section 1542.209). Per Civil Service Commission Rule Section 110.9.1, every applicant for an examination must possess and maintain the qualifications required by law and by the examination announcement for the examination. Failure to obtain and maintain security clearance may be the basis for termination from employment with the Airport Commission.
