The following information describes the civil service classification for which applications are being solicited.

The purpose of this examination announcement is to establish an eligible list for this classification.
Under direction, supervises a group of Parking Control Officers assigned to the Parking Enforcement and Traffic section, engaged in parking enforcement, traffic control, parking citations and vehicle impound activities. Essential duties include planning, assigning and coordinating the activities of Parking Control Officers who enforce the provisions of the California Vehicle Code, and local transportation codes related to the movement of vehicular traffic, pedestrian traffic and parking rules and regulations; training subordinates in all aspects of the job including techniques of parking enforcement and intersection control, department policies, procedures and codes, prevention of employee illness, injury and accident; reviewing the work of subordinates and ensuring that work performance meets established standards; preparing performance evaluation reports; conducting staff meetings as necessary; providing information to public regarding departmental policies and procedures, vehicles codes and other applicable laws and ordinances; observing subordinates on a daily basis to determine that they meet departmental standards for job performance; citing illegally parked motor vehicles; assessing situations, at times multi-tasking and making sound decisions regarding emergencies, deployment and redeployment of staff, and public safety activities; and conducting employee injury and accident investigations and preparing necessary reports. Performs other related duties as required.
Nature of work: Requires incumbents to operate a motor vehicle, stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time in the proximity of moving vehicles, in sometimes critical situations; full range of motion movements to direct traffic (waist, shoulder, hand and leg movements); lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds for an extended distance , write or keyboard repetitively; utilize computer applications, email and internet; wear contract designated uniform and equipment weighing approximately fifteen (15) pounds around one’s waist through a normal shift; wear safety gear such as helmets when operating a three-wheeled motor vehicle; and interact courteously with members of the public under stressful situations. Incumbents will be required to work shift, evening, night, weekend, holiday and mandatory overtime (including inverse seniority overtime).
1. Three (3) years field experience in vehicle parking code enforcement and traffic control which included extensive interaction with members of the public at a level equivalent to that of class 8214 Parking Control Officer with the City and County of San Francisco; AND
2. Possession of a valid Class C driver license (must possess a California Class C Driver license at the time of appointment; AND
3. Possession of a High School Diploma, GED or California High School Proficiency Certificate; AND
4. Possession a good driving record with none of the following occurrences within 2 years of the application filing date and through appointment.
·No convictions of California State Vehicle Code 20001 (leaving the scene of an accident involving bodily injury or death)
·No convictions of California State Vehicle 23103 through 23109 (reckless driving)
·No convictions of California State Vehicle 23152 – 23153 (driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs).
Thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units from an accredited college or university which must have included at least fifteen (15) semester units or twenty two (22) quarter units in any of the following areas: Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice/Administration of Justice or other Behavioral Science may be used to substitute one (1) year of above work experience
Must maintain a CLETS (California Law Enforcement Telecommunication System) certification throughout employment.

Written Multiple-Choice Examination: (Weight: 100%)
Candidates deemed eligible and admitted to the examination process will be administered a written multiple-choice test designed to measure knowledge, skills and/or abilities in job-related areas which may include but not limited to: supervisory ability, technical knowledge, human relations ability, knowledge of safety methods and procedures, problem solving and decision-making ability.

The certification rule used for the eligible list resulting from this selection process will be the Rule of Three Scores. The hiring department may conduct additional selection processes to make final hiring decisions.
The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination will be twelve (12) months. The eligible list resulting from this examination is subject to change after adoption (e.g., as a result of appeals), as directed by the Director of Human Resources and/or Civil Service Commission.
