There is currently, one (1) position at the Power Enterprise of the
San Francisco Public Utilities Commission
Under direction, the Transmission Line Supervisor I (in class 7229) supervises a crew engaged in the construction, maintenance and repair of high voltage overhead transmission and distribution lines. The Transmission Line Supervisor I, is responsible for: interpreting and instructing staff on existing methods and procedures relative to transmission line construction and maintenance and repair activities; making contacts with other departmental personnel and the general public on line construction, maintenance and repair problems; gathering and preparing time and material reports on work performed.
Lays out, assigns and supervises subordinate personnel engaged in construction, installation, maintenance and repair of high voltage overhead transmission lines and appurtenances
Assures that all safety precautions, tools and equipment are in use when necessary to perform maintenance and repair work on energized lines
Supervises the washing of insulators, the cleaning and painting of poles and transmission towers
Supervises the inspection and patrolling of transmission lines and clearance of right-of-way obstructions
Supervises the inspection of switchgear, transformers and other auxiliary equipment for proper operation and condition
Prepares records and reports of time worked, work performed and materials and supplies utilized on various projects
Assists in the development and advancement of subordinates through training and effective use of employee development programs
Nature of work requires considerable physical effort and manual dexterity with frequent exposure to inclement weather and serious accident hazards.
1. Six (6) years of journeyman level experience in the construction, maintenance and repair of overhead transmission systems, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Special Condition: Requires possession of class B California driver's license.

Supplemental Questionnaire - Minimum Qualifications (MQSQ):
Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire during the online application process. The supplemental questionnaire will be used to screen for relevant qualifying experience and education in relation to the minimum qualifications of class 7229 Transmission Line Supervisor I.

Oral Examination: (Weight 100%)
Qualified candidates will be invited to participate in an oral examination. The oral exam has been designed to candidates relative knowledge, skill, and ability levels in job-related areas which may include, but are not limited to: knowledge of development and implementation of policies and procedures; knowledge of industrial and institutional electrical systems; safety rules and regulations; knowledge of construction management concepts.
A passing score must be achieved on the Oral Examination in order to be placed/ranked on the Eligible List.
Certification Rule: The certification rule for the ranked eligible lists resulting from this examination will be Rule of Three Scores. The department may administer additional position-specific selection procedures to make final hiring decisions.
Eligible List: The eligible list resulting from this examination is subject to change after adoption (e.g., as a result of appeals), as directed by the Human Resources Director or the Civil Service Commission. The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be 12 months, and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director.
Upon approval of the Human Resource Director (see Civil Service Rule 111A.26.5), the eligible list resulting from this announcement may be used by other departments that also use this classification or a similar classification. Drug Testing Requirement: Applicants for positions in this classification who are not currently employed by the City and County of San Francisco in a safety-sensitive position represented by Local 6, are required to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing. All employees in this classification may also be subject to drug and alcohol testing upon reasonable suspicion or after a work-related accident. Applicants with a positive result from a pre-employment drug test will be restricted from hire in safety-sensitive positions for six months after the date of the positive test.
