THE JOB: Under supervision, to do varied clerical work of average difficulty; and to do related work as required.
THE REQUIREMENTS: No specific training or experience is required.
Special Requirements/Conditions: License Requirement: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License from the start of employment is required for some positions. Special Working Conditions: Some positions may occasionally have exposure to variable temperatures and weather conditions, high levels of noise, strong, unpleasant odors, possible sunburn, bodily injury or contact with toxic substances or chemical irritants.
Knowledge: Some knowledge of office procedures and practices.
Ability to: Perform clerical work involving a degree of independent judgment and requiring speed and accuracy; quickly learn the specific operations of the office to which assigned; understand and follow oral and written directions; operate standard office equipment; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the public and others; make simple arithmetic computations; spell correctly; write neatly and legibly; maintain simple records; do alphabetical filing. The following are required for some positions: exercise discretion and judgment in caring for materials transported; adjust schedules to meet changing priorities; type at a moderate rate of speed; lift up to 40 or 60 pounds; stand for long periods of time; and work in a noisy environment.
THE EXAMINATION: Your application will be reviewed to determine if you have met the education, experience, training and/or licensing requirements as stated on the job announcement. If you meet these criteria and are one of the best qualified, you may be required to compete in any combination of written, oral and/or performance examinations or a competitive evaluation of training and experience as described on your application. You must pass all components of the examination to be placed on the eligible list. The examination may be eliminated if there are ten or fewer qualified applicants. If the eligible list is established without the administration of the announced examination, the life of the eligible list will be six months and your overall score will be based upon an evaluation of your application. If during those six months it is necessary to administer another examination for this job class, you will be invited to take the examination to remain on the eligible list.
