California Children's Services - Supervising Therapist (#PP7 )

$53.99-$72.09 hourly / $9,358.09-$12,495.36 monthly / $112,299.20-$149,947.20 yearly

• Selects, trains, and evaluates professional and support staff;
• Assigns and reviews the work of physical and occupational therapists for physically disabled children;
• Instructs therapists in therapy techniques and provides for their continuing education;
• Consults and works with physicians and therapists in evaluating children's disability and planning treatment programs;
• Works with school personnel and other staff to coordinate the therapy and teaching program;
• Arranges for participation of therapists in clinics;
• Reviews reports and records of the therapists;
• Maintains communication with other county and State CCS programs regarding legal, policy and practice expectations.
• Plans, implements and evaluates quality and effectiveness of all program activities; negotiates and implements interagency agreements, and is a resource to external programs regarding the operations of the MTP;
• Inventories and requests supplies; keeps informed of current trends and professional activities in related therapy.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Knowledge:

Thorough knowledge of:

• Principles and practices of physical and/or occupational therapy.

Working knowledge of:

• Objectives and methods of occupational and physical therapy.
• Administration and consultation principles.
• Methods of testing and evaluating developmental, muscular and neural functions.
• Clinical management and organizational methods.
• Neuro-muscular function and dysfunction.
• Orthopedic appliances and equipment.

Some knowledge of:

• Principles of supervision and training.

Ability to:

• Analyze situations accurately and adopt a course of action.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with patients and others contacted in the course of work.
• Understand and interpret physicians' orders.
• Instruct therapists and direct therapist staff in activities related to patient treatment.
• Communicate verbal and written ideas clearly and logically.

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying, unless otherwise specified. A typical way to obtain these would be:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in physical or occupational therapy OR graduation from an approved school of physical or occupational therapy

AND

Two years of experience providing services to the physically disabled, including children.

Special Requirements:

Possession of a valid Physical Therapy License issued by the Physical Therapy Board of California OR a valid Occupational Therapy License issued by the California Board of Occupational Therapy.
Possession and maintenance of a valid California Class C Driver License or the incumbent must provide suitable transportation approved by the appointing authority.
