Distinguishing Characteristics
Typical Tasks
- Service vehicles by filling gas tanks, checking oil, water, tire pressure and batteries;
- Clean and wash vehicles and maintain station and garage in a clean and orderly fashion;
- Change and repair tires;
- Install minor accessories such as mirrors, wipers and lamps;
- Remove and replace car seats;
- Change oil and air filters;
- Lubricate chassis;
- Pick up automotive parts and equipment;
- Pick up and deliver vehicles for warranty or repair at outside vendors;
- Label and stock parts and supplies;
- Move automobiles;
- Complete forms and maintain service records;
- Supervise jail trustee workers;
- Use a variety of hand and power tools.

- Methods, tools and equipment used in servicing and repairing automotive equipment.

- Read, understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Safely drive automobiles.
- Use hand and power tools safely.
- Safely lift objects weighing 75 pounds.
- Accurately record information on forms.
- Perform minor repairs and adjustments on automobiles.
- Perform moderate physical effort on an intermittent basis.
- Learn and perform a variety of tasks in the servicing of automobiles.
- Work cooperatively with others and provide positive customer service.
- Gain the cooperation and provide direction to jail trustee workers.
- Learn to input, access and analyze data using a computer.
- Hear and distinguish various sounds, such as voices of co-workers in noisy environment and sounds of operating equipment.
- Stand and walk for extended periods of time up to 8 hours.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying, unless otherwise specified. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
One year of experience performing minor repairs and adjustments on automotive equipment
Special Requirements/Conditions:
License: Possession of a valid class C driver license.
Special Working Conditions: Exposure to: heights, such as on ladders and equipment; high levels of noise; electrical hazards; dust; the possibility of experiencing burns, bodily injury, contact with toxic substances or chemical irritants; slippery surfaces such as coolant and oil on garage floor.
