Typical Tasks
- Operates various offset printing presses and/or rapid copy machines;
- Products may be in various sizes, multi color and/or various types of paper;
- Pre press duties include electrostatic plate making, preparing lithographic negatives, exposing and developing metal printing plates, determine proper colors or additives to meet requirements of paper, cutting paper to exact sizes, assisting customers by providing information about available duplication services and basic cost estimates;
- Performs post press operations using various bindery equipment to produce a finished product;
- Performs regular inspection and cleaning of equipment;
- May orient, train and/or assist new and less experienced operators;
- May perform duties of Mail Clerk as needed;
- May prepare work orders and price out jobs during supervisor's absences.

Knowledge:
Duplicating Equipment Operator I
- Some knowledge of general office procedures.
Duplicating Equipment Operator II
- Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of rapid copy machines and bindery equipment.
- Some knowledge of the operation and maintenance of printing press equipment.
Duplicating Equipment Operator III
- Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of printing press, rapid copy and bindery equipment.
- Working knowledge of the types, qualities, weights and uses of papers, inks, solvents, and various products made for use with rapid copy machines and printing presses.
- Working knowledge of techniques to layout copy and techniques to ensure color registration.
- Some knowledge of photographic processes to give instructions to photographer and to develop negatives.
- Some knowledge of techniques to prepare metal plates for printing press.

- Act as a technical resource on available duplicating services to department staff and customers.
- Orient, train and assist new and/or less experienced operators.
- Keep records and prepare reports.

Training and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and abilities, is qualifying. A typical way to obtain these knowledge and abilities would be:
Duplicating Equipment Operator I: No previous experience necessary.
Duplicating Equipment Operator II: One year experience equivalent to the classification of Duplicating Equipment Operator I.
Duplicating Equipment Operator III: Two years experience equivalent to the class of Duplicating Equipment Operator II.
