Definition

Under supervision, to make up orders, receive, store, issue and deliver supplies and equipment; to assist in the maintenance and disposal of surplus property and records; to maintain accurate inventory and accounting records; and to do other work as required.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This class is the full journey level Warehouse Worker class performing a variety of manual and clerical tasks. This class may lead temporary workers performing routine duties in the absence of the Senior Warehouse Worker.

Typical Tasks

  • Receives and reconciles deliveries checking for shortages and damage;
  • Loads and unloads records generated by county departments, materials, equipment and supplies;
  • Unpacks, stores and reorganizes stock;
  • Operates fork lifts and material handling equipment;
  • Keeps warehouse clean and orderly;
  • Leads and participates in routine work assigned to temporary workers;
  • Answers questions about prices and materials in stock;
  • Assists in receiving, storing and disposal of surplus property;
  • Makes up orders and deliveries to county departments;
  • Assists in determining stock levels and in ordering;
  • Takes physical inventory;
  • Keeps accurate records and prepares reports.

Employment Standards

Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge of general storekeeping methods, practices and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of proper lifting techniques.

Ability to:

  • Follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Drive 5 speed stick shift delivery trucks.
  • Learn to operate fork lifts and material handling equipment.
  • Calculate unit prices and maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Lift and move heavy or bulky objects weighing over 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationship with others contacted in the course of work.
  • Prepare reports.

Training and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain these knowledge and abilities would be:

One year of experience ordering, receiving, storing and issuing supplies and materials.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License.
