The Department of Public Works currently has one vacancy for Waste Disposal Site Attendants for the Western Placer Waste Management Authority (WPWMA) located in Roseville, CA. The WPWMA provides solid waste recycling and disposal services for western Placer County. WPWMA staff ensures the facility is operating in compliance with all applicable regulations, meeting the needs of current customers, and adequately prepared for future customers and upcoming regulations. This position is responsible for attending the cashiers booth at the Western Placer Waste Management Authority in Roseville, CA. The ideal candidate will have experience performing teller or cashier activities.

Extra Help/Temporary positions are limited to 999 hours per fiscal year (960 for CalPERS retired annuitants).

Under general supervision, to estimate, collect and account for disposal fees at landfill and transfer stations; to safeguard and account for receipts; to perform cashiering functions in conformance with the Western Placer Waste Management Authority or Placer County cash management guidelines; to direct traffic to appropriate waste disposal locations; to issue warnings and enforce ordinances and regulations of the Authority; to inspect disposal loads for hazardous materials and to perform related duties as required.
This is the journey level position. Incumbents initially perform the more routine duties assigned to positions in this class and work under close supervision. However, as experience is gained, incumbents are expected to perform the full range of duties as assigned with increasing independence.
Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit.
This class is distinguished from the Senior Waste Disposal Site Attendant position in that the latter is assigned lead and training responsibilities in the operation of the fee collection operations of the waste handling facility.
Receives general supervision from the Waste Disposal Site Supervisor. Receives technical and functional supervision from the Senior Waste Disposal Site Attendant.
May exercise technical and functional supervision over extra help and or seasonal employees.

Experience and Training
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience Two years of responsible work experience in performing teller or cashier activities. A working background or training in entrance gate or retail store operations.
Training Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Additional course work in math, accounting, or computer science in desirable.
License or Certificate:
May need to possess a valid driver's license as required by the position. Proof of adequate vehicle insurance and medical clearance may also be required.

Based upon responses to the supplemental questionnaire, the applicant’s education, training, and experience will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula. Scores from this evaluation will determine applicant ranking and placement on the eligible list.
Prior to the date of hire, applicants must undergo a fingerprint test by the Department of Justice, pass a medical examination (which may include a drug screening and possibly a psychological evaluation), sign a constitutional oath, and submit proof of U.S. citizenship or legal right to remain and work in the U.S. For some positions, applicants may also be required to submit proof of age, undergo a background investigation (which may include a voice stress analysis and/or a polygraph), and/or be bonded. Additionally, positions in law enforcement classifications and those supporting law enforcement functions will be required to complete a conviction history questionnaire prior to or during the interview process. Applicants for positions with access to Medi-Cal billing software or who are licensed providers must clear the Federal Exclusion List, credentialing, and social security verification. Failure to clear these requirements may result in an employment offer being withdrawn.
The eligible list resulting from this recruitment may be certified as a substitute list for a substantially similar classification. For this purpose, a substantially similar classification is one at a lower level in the same classification (example: entry level vs. journey level) and/or a similar classification (similar work performed, similar training and experience qualifications required).
