This promotional recruitment is open to permanent Placer County employees only.
The current Animal Control Officer - Senior vacancy is in the Truckee Animal Shelter, serving Eastern Placer County. This position requires the ability to work shifts, standby, weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.
Under general supervision, to perform the more difficult or responsible animal control functions; and to train new employees.
This is the advanced journey level class in the Animal Control Officer series. Positions at this level are distinguished from other classes within the series by the level of responsibility assumed, complexity of duties assigned, independence of action taken, by the amount of time spent performing the duties and by the nature of the public contact made. Employees perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties assigned to classes within this series acting in a lead capacity over other Animal Control staff. Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to assigned area of responsibility.
Receives general supervision from the Supervising Animal Control Officer and/or higher level supervisory or management staff.
Exercises technical and functional supervision over technical personnel.

Experience: Three years increasingly responsible experience in either an animal care/protection or law enforcement agency performing duties similar to an Animal Control Officer in Placer County.

The oral examination will be conducted by a panel of raters who will assess and rate the degree to which each applicant demonstrates the knowledge and abilities required for this classification. Applicants’ responses to a series of job related questions, as well as their education and experience, will be rated in relation to the requirements for this classification.
NOTE: The oral examination is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, February 21, 2019. Candidates that meet the minimum qualifications will receive a notice via email regarding the date, time and location of the exam once the recruitment closes.
Prior to the date of hire, applicants must undergo a fingerprint test by the Department of Justice, pass a medical examination (which may include a drug screening and possibly a psychological evaluation), sign a constitutional oath and submit proof of U.S. citizenship or legal right to remain and work in the U.S. For some positions, applicants may also be required to submit proof of age, undergo a background investigation (which may include a voice stress analysis and/or a polygraph) and/or be bonded. Additionally, positions in law enforcement classifications, and those supporting law enforcement functions will be required to complete a conviction history questionnaire prior to or during the interview process. Applicants for positions with access to Medi-Cal billing software or who are licensed providers must clear the Federal Exclusion List, credentialing, and social security verification. Failure to clear these requirements may result in an employment offer being withdrawn.
The eligible list(s) resulting from this recruitment may be certified as a substitute list for a substantially similar classification. For this purpose, a substantially similar classification is one at a lower level in the same classification (example: entry level vs. journey) and/or a similar classification (similar work performed, similar training and experience qualifications required).
