(Conviction of a crime is not necessarily a bar to employment.  Each case is considered separately based on job requirements). 

You must disclose convictions, including reckless and drunk driving convictions, even if:

  • It happened a long time ago;
  • It was only a misdemeanor;
  • You didn’t have to go to court (your attorney went for you);
  • You had no jail time or the sentence was only a fine or probation 

You may OMIT:   

  • Minor traffic violations;
  • An arrest or detention that did not result in a conviction (Labor Code section 432.7);
  • An arrest, detention, processing, diversion, supervision, adjudication, or court disposition that occurred while you were subject to the process and jurisdiction of the juvenile court;
  • A conviction that has been judicially dismissed or ordered sealed, expunged, or statutorily eradicated pursuant to law (e.g. juvenile offense records sealed pursuant to Welfare and Institutions Code section 389 and Penal Code sections 851.7 or 1203.45);
  • A non-felony conviction for possession of marijuana that is two or more years old (Labor Code section 432.8).

DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE: The Office of the District Attorney preserves public safety and enhances the quality of life in Placer County by investigating crime, prosecuting criminals, assisting victims and survivors of crime, protecting the health and well-being of children, and deterring juveniles from criminal activity.

 

PROBATION DEPARTMENT: The mission of the Probation Department is to promote the safety of the citizens of Placer County by conducting investigations for the court, enforcing court orders, ensuring victims’ rights, engaging in crime prevention partnerships, and facilitating the re-socialization of offenders through the use of evidence-based supervision and best practices.

 

SHERIFF'S OFFICE: The Sheriff's Office safeguards individual liberties, builds community partnerships, prevents crime, and resolves those crimes that do occur. The Sheriff's Office is also responsible for the professional care and custody of those confined within the County's jail facilities. Other duties and services include marshal, security of courts, and investigation of coroner cases. The Records Division operates Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. The Corrections Division (jail) is a 24-hour facility, and these positions require working 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
