DEPARTMENT PREFERENCE

Please indicate which County departments match your major coursework.  You may select up to 5 departments:

ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES: The Administrative Services Department provides comprehensive information technology (IT), including project planning, management for system implementations, maintains the County data and telecommunications systems, including servers, data storage, firewall, and security systems. Administrative Services also provides centralized purchasing services to county departments for the procurement of materials, equipment and services, as well as centralized billing and collection services to secure funds entitled to Placer County and other government entities. This department also maintains a full-service print shop supporting Placer County departments.
AGRICULTURE: The Agriculture Department responsibilities include performing agricultural and pesticide inspections; helping farmers maintain healthy crops and livestock; certifying weighing and measuring devices for consumer protection; performing quantity control and price verification inspections and assisting in predatory animal control.
AIR POLLUTION CONTROL DISTRICT: The Agency enforces Federal, State and local air pollution laws and regulations through investigation, inspection and follow up activities, including citation issuance; and to communicate with the public regarding compliance and enforcement.
ASSESSOR: Completes annual and supplemental assessment rolls for all property in the County that is subject to local assessment. Performs business property audits to ensure compliance and equalization of business-property assessments. Provides property information for local government, property owners, and the business community.
AUDITOR-CONTROLLER: Provides accounting, budgeting, and financial services to the public, county agencies, school districts, special districts and cities as defined under Government Code.
CHILD SUPPORT SERVICES: Provides a variety of services to parents and guardians and helps them fulfill their responsibilities to children, including establishing paternity; locating a parent in order to establish paternity and/or child support (including enforcing payment of support); establishing, modifying, and enforcing a court order to pay child support; collecting and distributing child and spousal support payments, medical support, and family support orders.
CLERK-RECORDER/REGISTRAR OF VOTERS: Includes the following divisions: Recording: Supports Countywide recording and County clerk functions, including property transactions, verifying whether or not a variety of documents meet appropriate requirements, updating or transmitting official records on computerized systems, issuing, retrieving, and certifying documents, and/or performing scanning, imaging, or microfilming duties. Elections: Manages and administers all local County election functions, including voter registration, verification of voter materials, training poll workers or other temporary staff assigned to assist with elections, processing ballots, and/or providing assistance to candidates and campaigns with regard to filings and disclosure requirements.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT RESOURCE AGENCY (CDRA): The Agency provides centralized administration and support services to departments under the Community Development Resource Agency (CDRA) umbrella: Planning, Building Inspection, and Engineering and Surveying. Programs specific to CDRA include environmental review coordination, geographic information services (GIS), information technology support, accounting, auditing, and front counter services, including Tahoe functions and Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) interface.
COUNTY COUNSEL: Provides legal representation and advocacy in civil litigation and administrative hearings involving the County and its officers and employees. The Juvenile and Adult Dependency team provides legal advice and representation in child and adult protective services, actions, as well as in mental health, public guardian and public administrator matters.
COUNTY EXECUTIVE OFFICE: Includes the following divisions: Administration, Board of Supervisors (BOS), Clerk of the Board (COB), Economic Development (ED), Emergency Services/Community Outreach (ES-CO), Risk Management - General Liability (RM). Administration oversees budget and financial activities, analyzes Board agenda and legislative items, and functions as the liaison between departments and the Board of Supervisors; the BOS governs the county through its authority to set significant policies and responds to the community; the COB coordinates public agendas, committees and commissions, and processes taxpayers' property assessment appeals; ED focuses on economic development opportunities to support delivery of public/private services; the ES-CO functions as the emergency readiness and response agency and delivery of information to the public; RM is responsible for risk management avoidance and claims processing.
DISTRICT ATTORNEY: The Office of the District Attorney preserves public safety and enhances the quality of life in Placer County by investigating crime, prosecuting criminals, assisting victims and survivors of crime, protecting the health and well-being of children, and deterring juveniles from criminal activity.Note: If you indicate interest in working at the District Attorney's Office you will be required to complete a conviction history and/or background questionnaire prior to receiving a conditional offer of employment.
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS/FACILITIES (DPW/F): DPW/F provides a wide range of public services including public transit, engineering design and construction of storm-drain systems, bridge rehabilitations, public roadway maintenance and snow removal. DPW/F is comprised of the Transportation, Roadways and Bridges, Fleet Services, Road Maintenance, NPDES, Administration, Building Maintenance, Parks & Grounds, Museums, Capital Improvements, Eastern Regional Landfill, Solid Waste Mgmt, Dewitt Development, and Environmental Utilities divisions, with maintenance crew corporation yards located in the North Lake Tahoe, Colfax, Foresthill, Lincoln, Auburn, and Loomis. Placer County Flood Control and Water Conservation District is under DPW/F as well.
HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES: HHS provides a unified system of quality services to safeguard the health and well being of people in Placer County. Services provided by the department's six divisions include: Crisis & Emergency Services for Family & Children (CPS) and Adult Mental Health/APS, along with a full spectrum of care and support for children and families; a full range of treatment and support services to assist adults and older adults in achieving optimal level of independence; eligibility determinations and employment services to assist with overcoming barriers to employment and achieving self-sufficiency; provides temporary short-term assistance to eligible adults, eliminating or minimizing environmental health hazards; animal care and control programs; health programs to promote healthy lifestyles and behaviors; and primary outpatient medical, dental, and pharmacy services.
HUMAN RESOURCES: The Human Resources Department recruits, retains and supports the County workforce through a wide range of human resource activities including recruitment, benefits, retirement, leave management, ACORN (PeopleSoft Payroll and HR), Civil Service administration, and equal employment opportunity compliance. In addition to providing administrative and secretarial support to the department, the Executive Secretary acts as the Clerk to the Civil Service Commission and is responsible for scheduling, preparing agendas and taking minutes at all public meetings and hearings.
LAFCO: Local Agency Formation Commission is responsible for encouraging orderly County growth and development, including the protection of agricultural resources and open space, discouragement of urban sprawl, and the enforcement of legislative mandates regarding boundary changes, annexations, formations, incorporations, dissolutions, and/or the extension of urban services.
LIBRARY: Placer County Library provides free and open access to library services, programs, and materials that enrich, inform, empower, and entertain. It is committed to being a valuable source of information and lifelong learning to the residents of our communities.
PROBATION: Juvenile Probation provides services for youth at all stages of the criminal justice system, from early Delinquency/Crime Prevention, Court Services, Detention and Treatment Services, Alternative Dispositional Options and Supervision Services. Services include redirecting behavior, providing accountability, promoting family reunification and providing safety to the community. Adult Probation provides services for adults at all stages of the criminal justice system from Court Services, Pre-Trial Services, Alternative Sentencing, Re-Entry Programs, and Community Supervision. Services include assisting the Court, redirecting and supervising offenders in the community, holding offenders accountable while redirecting behavior and providing safety to the community. SHERIFF: The Sheriff's Office safeguards individual liberties, builds community partnerships, prevents crime, and resolves those crimes that do occur. The Sheriff's Office is also responsible for the professional care and custody of those confined within the county's jail facilities. Other duties and services include marshal, security of courts, and investigation of coroner cases.Note: If you indicate interest in working at the Sheriff's Office you will be required to complete a conviction history and/or background questionnaire prior to receiving a conditional offer of employment.
TREASURER/TAX COLLECTOR: Provides banking, investment services, and safekeeping of all moneys belonging to the County, school districts, and certain special districts in a manner that maintains the highest level of public trust. The Treasurer also assists the County, school districts, and certain special districts with the issuance and selling of bonds, provides various debt-management and administration services, as well as other financial advisory and consulting services. To provide for current and delinquent billing, collection, and accounting of real and personal property taxes for all local taxing agencies in the County and to provide for the issuance of business licenses and snow chain licenses in the unincorporated area of the County consistent with the highest level of responsiveness and accountability to taxpayers of Placer County.
VETERANS SERVICES: The Veterans Service Office promotes the interest and welfare of veterans, their dependents, and their survivors by enhancing their quality of life through counseling, education, benefits assistance, and advocacy. It connects Veterans to their benefits by assisting in their interactions with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and hopes to make easier the process of applying for benefits like Veterans Health Care and Veterans Pension.
