The Office of Emergency Services (OES) provides emergency management services countywide, in cooperation with local cities and special districts, such as fire and law enforcement agencies. During an incident, OES manages the Emergency Operations Center to support the response and recovery throughout the operational area. To learn more about OES, click here.
The current vacancy will be responsible for managing the operational readiness of the Emergency Operations Center; developing and updating plans, processes, and technology; coordinating and developing multi-agency trainings and exercises; and speaking and presenting to the public.
To plan, organize and direct the activities of the Placer County Operational Area Office of Emergency Services in response to disasters and emergencies; to assist in planning, formulating, updating and maintaining the County Emergency Services Plan; to coordinate and manage emergency operations through the emergency operations center; and to assist the Assistant County Executive Officer/Assistant Director of Emergency Services in the performance of a variety of activities in the areas of mitigation, safety, accident prevention and loss control.
Receives direction from the Assistant County Executive Officer/Assistant Director of Emergency Services.
Exercises direct supervision over professional and clerical personnel.

Experience and Training
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Five years of increasingly responsible administrative, technical or operational experience in a governmental emergency services or disaster response agency, planning and executing emergency preparedness activities including two years of supervisory responsibility.
Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business or public administration or public safety/emergency management.
License or Certificate:
Prior to the date of hire, applicants must undergo a fingerprint test by the Department of Justice, pass a medical examination (which may include a drug screening and possibly a psychological evaluation), sign a constitutional oath and submit proof of U.S. citizenship or legal right to remain and work in the U.S. For some positions, applicants may also be required to submit proof of age, undergo a background investigation (which may include a voice stress analysis and/or a polygraph) and/or be bonded. Additionally, positions in law enforcement classifications, and those supporting law enforcement functions will be required to complete a conviction history questionnaire prior to or during the interview process. Applicants for positions with access to Medi-Cal billing software or who are licensed providers must clear the Federal Exclusion List, credentialing, and social security verification. Failure to clear these requirements may result in an employment offer being withdrawn.
