The Building Inspector - Supervising is assigned to the County's Building Services Division of the Community Development Resource Agency. One of the unique aspects of the position is, as a working supervisor, to perform plan check and field inspections on a regular basis, particularly for the more complex residential and commercial projects. Assignments will include responding to the most complex project inquiries, interpreting applicable code, and serving as a liaison between department management staff and the public.

Tahoe Permanent Employees: *Salary plus additional $875 per month Tahoe Branch Assignment Premium for employees who meet residency requirements.
The Supervisor level recognizes positions that perform full, first-line supervisory responsibilities including planning, assigning and evaluating the work of subordinates and are responsible for a program area within a work unit or division.
Receives general direction from assigned management staff.
Exercises direct supervision over assigned professional, technical and clerical personnel.

Experience and Training: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible advanced journey level experience performing duties similar to those of a Senior Building Inspector in Placer County.
Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college course work in building codes, construction technology or a related field. Additional training in supervision is highly desirable.

Based upon responses to the supplemental questionnaire, the applicant’s education, training and experience will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula. Scores from this evaluation will determine applicant ranking and placement on the eligible list.
The eligible list(s) resulting from this recruitment may be certified as a substitute list for a substantially similar classification. For this purpose, a substantially similar classification is one at a lower level in the same classification (example: entry level vs. journey) and/or a similar classification (similar work performed, similar training and experience qualifications required).
