The Tax Processing Specialist plays a critical role in assisting and shaping the direction of one or more sections in the Central Processing Division of the Oklahoma Tax Commission.  The Specialist’s are assigned responsibilities involving the review, editing and processing of various tax returns and forms.

The functions performed by employees in this job family will vary by level, but may include the following:

• Opens, sorts, extracts, reviews and edits all tax types and tax forms received and prepares for posting to taxpayer accounts
• Reviews payments to ensure tax liabilities are accurately paid and processed for deposit
• Makes corrections as needed to tax returns and documents within established guidelines and rule/statute requirements
• Researches accounts for taxpayer information and history in order to apply payments or correct returns
• Performs quality control checks on documents or images as required
• Enters data of remittances and returns into various databases and software systems
• Notifies the Team Lead, Manager and/or Administrator of any potential problems, recommends alternate solutions, and assists with training employees
• Provides input for improvement of procedures, policies and inefficiencies
• Operates various equipment associated with inbound and outbound mail, including high-speed scanners and folder/inserters

This specific position will support the following section of the Central Processing Division with additional duties that will vary by level, but may include the following:

• Operates and provides daily maintenance of high speed scanners
• Reviews and corrects scanned images in processing modules
• Researches accounts to ensure correct processing of documents and remittances
• Verifies scanned images in Imaging Repositories and makes corrections when necessary

The Tax Processing Specialist job family has two levels, which are distinguished by the complexity of assignments, the level of expertise required to perform the duties assigned, and the responsibility for providing leadership to others.

The Specialist is the entry-level where employees are responsible for performing various routine functions in reviewing, editing and processing various tax forms and documents.  Duties may include making corrections to tax returns/documents within established guidelines and will involve processing tax returns/documents at all levels of difficulty.  Duties will vary according to the division in which the position is found, but will require specialized knowledge as it relates to the tax laws and agency policies and procedures applicable to the division.  Work is typically reviewed when problems occur or at completion.

Preference may be given to candidates who have experience in working with imaging equipment, tax forms, or processing environments and/or are skilled at typing accurately forty words per minute.

Core work hours for the Oklahoma Tax Commission are Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:30pm.  This schedule may require flexibility, including some weekends and overtime, based on the needs of the agency.

This position requires the employee to be able to stand up to 8 hours a day and lift 10-50 pounds on a regular basis, with assistance as needed.

This position is not eligible for Telework.

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of
• An associate’s degree in any field 
• OR two years of experience in clerical office, bookkeeping, tax computation, or closely related field
• OR an equivalent combination of education
