The mission of the Oklahoma Department of Mines (ODM) is to protect the environment of the state, to protect the health and safety of the miners and to protect the life, health, and property of the citizens who are affected through enforcement of the state mining and reclamation laws.
ODM is seeking one or more informal conference officer(s) as part of its review of permit applications and contested violations of the Mining Lands Reclamation Act. This position in state government will be an independent contractor position, (and therefore will not be considered an employee of the Dept. of Mines and not entitled to salaried benefits).
The Informal Conference Officer is responsible for conducting informal conferences related to mining permit applications and agency enforcement actions. The informal conference officer will travel to the location of the scheduled conference and will record the conference using a voice recorder provided by the agency. The informal conference officer will take names and contact information for each person who attends the conference. The officer will accept documents and oral statements made and will compile an informal conference record for the agency. The officer will also prepare a written summary and report of the conference for the agency.
Applicants must be able to travel to locations throughout the state to attend the scheduled informal conference with 3-4 weeks advance notice. The agency will furnish a voice recorder and microphone, binders and file folders, and copies of relevant agency documents to take to the conference. Applicants must be able to operate a voice recorder and organize written and/or digital documents into a file binder.
Applicants must be able to use a computer to type a written informal conference report. Previous experience with mining is preferred, but not required.
