The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (ODAFF) is seeking a full time FIA Forester II in the Oklahoma Forestry Services. This (PIN #04000176) is a statewide, traveling position, working for the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture. If selected the candidate must live somewhere in the Eastern half of the state. The State of Oklahoma offers a comprehensive Benefits Packet, including a generous benefit allowance to offset the cost of insurance premiums for employees and their eligible dependents. The annual salary for this position is up to $39,245 based on education and experience.
FIA foresters travel the state, taking measurements on long-term fixed radius research plots. Oklahoma established many of these sites in 1936 and our data collection enables us to monitor forest health, observe disturbances and ecological responses to those disturbances, track succession, assess sustainability, quantify carbon balances, and more. The job requires outdoor work 95% of the time and significant travel four days per week. Base salary for a Forester II is $39,245 plus retirement and benefits, a work vehicle, and per diem for out-of-town travel. You must be willing to work outside in most conditions and be willing to learn.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of dendrology; of mensuration; of forest management; of silviculture; of modern forestry methods and techniques; of soil conservation techniques and principles; of forest economics; of timber management, inventories, cutting and regeneration methods; of forest products, marketing and urban forestry; of tree physiology; of the methods, techniques, tools and equipment related to wildland fire management and suppression; of report writing and recordkeeping; of tree identification; and of forestry programs, forest regeneration systems, and natural resources. Ability is required to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; to speak effectively before groups; and to follow written and oral instructions.
