Location:  Oklahoma School for the Deaf– Sulphur

Salary:  Annual salary range is commensurate with education and years of experience. Salary ranges $36,601.00 (Bachelor’s Degree) - $51,971.00 (Master’s Degree). Employees are provided paid health, dental, life and retirement benefits as well as an option to participate in the State’s tax-deferred annuity program.  This will be a 180-day per year, contracted position.

Essential Functions:  Position is an Early Childhood teacher for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. Position is primarily responsible for providing learning experiences by utilizing school curriculum, IEP goals and objective and other appropriate materials and activities. Duties include preparing lesson plans, reports, and keeping records of student behavior and attitude needed to provide an orderly productive environment; ascertain learning needs of students and to establish evaluation techniques for assessment of progress, as well as participate in extracurricular activities.
Individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing are encouraged to apply.

Preference may be given to applicants with expressive and receptive sign language skills with fluency in American Sign Language.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience working with young deaf and hard of hearing children and their families.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong commitment to working with young children who are deaf or hard of hearing in an ASL/English bilingual environment.
Advanced understanding of language development in young children birth to age five (both ASL and spoken language in children who are unimodal, bimodal, or bilingual) emergent literacy, etc.
Knowledge of early childhood development.
Knowledge of the IEP process.
Willingness to work in a collaborative work environment.
Skills using technology for teaching, communication, collaboration, and virtual learning.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in deaf education or early childhood education with the completion of four semesters of ASL is required, State of Oklahoma Teacher’s Certificate or qualifications to meet certification. Attainment of Advanced or above on the SLPI is required within two years of hire.  The ideal candidate will hold degrees in deaf education and early childhood education, one of which would be at the graduate level.
