JOB SUMMARY
The Early Childhood Education Specialist will be responsible for working within the Early Childhood Education Team within the Office of Curriculum and Instruction to promote and enact initiatives aimed at improving early childhood education in Oklahoma. The Early Childhood Education Specialist will work under the direction of the Executive Director of Early Childhood Education to collaborate with directors and specialists within the Office of Curriculum and Instruction, as well as participate in cross-functional teams throughout the agency. 

PLEASE NOTE:  This position is funded through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER). The funding for this position will expire in December of 2024. It is the goal of the Oklahoma State Department of Education to apply for more funding if it becomes available

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
● Knowledge of high leverage, evidence-based instructional practices used to promote rigorous, equitable instruction for early childhood students;
● Deep understanding of formative assessment techniques and how to use data to support instructional decision making;
● Experience developing and delivering professional learning opportunities that are responsive to principles of adult learning theory;
● Ability to promote cultural competence and a lens for equity and inclusion;
● Considerable knowledge of the Oklahoma Academic Standards for all content areas for grade range PreK-3;
● Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, local school officials and the general public,  express ideas clearly and concisely, and judge a situation and adopt an effective course of action; and
● Willingness and ability to perform necessary job-related travel.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
● Work closely with the Executive Director of Early Childhood Educatiuon on the development and facilitation of training, the creation of materials and resources, and building partnerships with other stakeholders in the Early Childhood community;
● Conduct on-site and virtual professional development on early childhood best practices and agency initiatives for teachers and leaders across the state;
● Work in partnership with internal and external stakeholders to develop and enact initiatives aimed at improving teaching and learning in Oklahoma early childhood education classrooms;
● Develop virtual professional development modules designed to provide asynchronous professional learning experiences for teachers;
● Knowledge of all state policies related to PreK-3 early childhood education.

TRAVEL
20% Travel required with occasional overnight stays.

TELEWORK
This position is eligible to telework up to one (1) day a week with supervisor approval. A Telework Agreement is required upon hire.

SALARY RANGE
$55,000-60,000/YEAR

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
● Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with in Education or related field; [official transcript(s) required];
● Three (3) years of experience teaching and/or leading in early childhood settings (PreK-3);
● Possession of a valid Oklahoma teaching certificate.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education or related field [official transcript(s) required].
