The Exhibitions Manager is the responsible for bringing the organization’s many stories to life in OKPOP’s physical environments through the development of world class interactive physical engagements. This includes roughly 20,000 square ft. of gallery space and other public facing areas, as well as through traveling off-site exhibitions.

Reporting to the Director of Collections & Exhibitions Management, the Exhibitions Manager oversees the implementation of the museum's diverse and robust gallery exhibition program, including regular rotation of select objects in the core exhibition; an annual slate of up to twelve temporary exhibitions of varying sizes and subject matter; and major thematic exhibitions of longer duration staged within various smaller galleries throughout the museum.

Working closely with curatorial staff, this position guides and supervises the activities of the exhibits team to fulfill the organization’s strategic objectives. This position assumes responsibility for exhibitions stewardship, including the concepting, scheduling, design, development, fabrication, and installation of the museum’s exhibits and interactives. This requires continued growth in understanding of the subject matter and the cultivation of strong working relationships with staff from other departments.

This position is expected to be a passionate fan of pop culture, capable of communicating and sharing that knowledge and enthusiasm with colleagues and guests through OKPOP’s physical environments and interactive experiences. This position manages the exhibitions team to further the storytelling objectives of the museum with respect to all the guest engagement areas of the museum.

Duties & Responsibilities:
• Work with Exhibit Team to design and develop OKPOP’s exhibits and physical and digital interactive experiences. This includes the permanent galleries, temporary and traveling exhibits, and public spaces like the retail and lounge areas.
• Manage all phases of exhibitions, from design through construction, and installation.
• The position collaborates across departments and divisions and contracts with outside vendors to complete each project on schedule and within budget
• The Exhibitions Manager directly supervises fabricators and installers (internal and external), leads regular project and staff meetings, and prepares and maintains production schedules
• The position is responsible for concepting, scheduling, staging, installing, and de-installing temporary exhibits
• Collaborate with other museum staff (writers/editors, curators, registrars, archivists) and other divisions (OKPOP Productions, Marketing/Outreach, Content, Facilities) to understand scope, subject matter and content and to develop a production schedule and define responsibilities for each exhibition
• Develop and maintain annual exhibition budgets, schedules, and other key project documents
• Work with Administrative Programs Officer and executive management to approve, process, and file electronically all exhibit-related purchasing documents and invoices
• Contract and work with a variety of vendors during the process of exhibition development and production (designers, fabricators, media and interactive producers, graphics companies, custom framers, etc.)
• Keep diverse teams focused, including calling, and facilitating regular meetings to accomplish project goals in a timely manner
• Stage informative, engaging, and attractive exhibitions
• Supervise vendors on site when necessary
• Prepares concept renderings using a variety of mediums including pencil sketches and design software.
• Maintains current knowledge of trends and materials, techniques, and other developments in interior design
• Work with registrar and curatorial staff to ensure best practices are followed for securing, handling, preparing, and presenting OKPOP collections and loaned objects
• Regularly meet with and report on progress to Director of Collections & Exhibitions Management
• Track in-house exhibition supplies and manage budget and inventory
• Occasional special projects and other duties as assigned

• Have an extensive knowledge of Oklahoma Pop Culture content, especially specific stories chosen by the organization as part of our permanent exhibitions and programs.
• Communicate the OKPOP story with positivity and enthusiasm.

Current state employees, a copy of your most recent PMP must be available upon request.


Applicants at this level are required to possess a combination of both education and experience. Preference will be given to detail-oriented problem solvers with strong organizational skills.  Preference will also be given to applicants with a bachelor’s degree in exhibit design, interior design, industrial design, graphic design, architecture, set design, theater, art, or a closely related field and at least two years of experience in various areas of design, including but not limited to exhibit design, set design, prop making, interactive design, etc.

Strong preference will be given to applicants who possess experience and training in various design software applications (CAD, SketchUp, etc).
