Come join the exciting world of emergency management!  Do you have a desire and a passion to serve the citizens of Oklahoma?  Come join our team and help your fellow Oklahomans.  The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (ODEMHS) prepares for, responds to, recovers from, and mitigates against disasters and emergencies.  Our agency operates the State Emergency Operations Center which serves as a command center for reporting emergencies and coordinating state response activities.

The ODEMHS is seeking a full time School Security Regional Representative providing support to the Office of Homeland Security.  This is a state employee position governed by the Civil Service Rules and is located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  The ODEMHS offers a comprehensive Benefits Package, including a generous benefit allowance to offset the cost of insurance premiums for employees and their eligible dependents.  For more information about the benefit allowance [click here]. The annual salary for this position is up to $56,800.00 based on education and experience.

Position Summary
Under the supervision of the School Security Coordinator and the direction of the Homeland Security Director, this position is responsible for assisting the OSSI Coordinator in achieving the goals of the OSSI as defined in Oklahoma State Statute Title 74, Section 51.2d.  Responsibilities include assisting the Program Manager in the implementation of training programs focused on school security issues, consulting with school districts on creating security policy and procedures, representing the OSSI in public forums, and creating and maintaining close working relationships with multi-disciplinary OSSI stakeholders.
Typical Functions
• Provides direct service to the stakeholders of school safety and security issues.
• Establishes, develops and maintains contact with public and private sector stakeholders to promote Oklahoma School Security Institute programs.
• Works with local school districts to determine issues where more training is needed.
• Assists in the distribution of resource information regarding best practices in school safety and security.
• Develops training classes and materials for school security courses requested by stakeholders.
• Facilitates scheduling and implementation of security assessments for public and private schools.
• Represents the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security and the Oklahoma School Security Institute at public events and meetings. 
• Assists the OSSI Program Manager with special projects for the Oklahoma School Security Institute.
• Other duties as assigned by the School Security Coordinator or Homeland Security Advisor/Director.

• Excellent communications skills, both oral and written.
• Experience in working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Organizational skills with the ability to plan, coordinate, and evaluate activities in multiple areas.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to manage work schedule to meet deadlines
• Ability to work independently
• Proven knowledge of and experience in using Microsoft Office products, with emphasis in Excel and Word programs with ability to: create forms, templates, mail merge for labels and letters, desktop publishing, developing spreadsheets, use of formulas, manipulate data, create charts, forms and reports.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Work is typically performed in an office setting with climate-controlled settings and exposure to mild noise level.  This position requires long periods of sitting and daily use of computer and telephone

Special Requirements
Must be able and willing to perform all job-related travel in-state and out-of-state when necessary, including overnight travel.  Percentage of travel time: 50%.

Education and experience requirements consist of a bachelor’s degree in emergency and disaster management, public safety, industrial hygiene, or a closely related field PLUS five years of professional experience in emergency management, industrial relations, public safety, safety inspection, safety education, transportation management, engineering, human resources, or risk management; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of professional qualifying experience for each year of the required education.
