This position is located atthe Central Oklahoma Juvenile Center in Tecumseh OK.

Please note this is a safety sensitive position as defined by 63 O.S. § 427.8 (K)(1)(i)(2).  Therefore, even for those applicants in possession of a valid medical marijuana license, testing positive for marijuana will result in non-hire, as the position requires direct patient or direct child care.

Recreation Therapist II X36B - $38,180.32 annual

Implements therapeutic recreational programs and activities for residents, including, but not limited to; outdoor programs, sports, group games, dancing and special event programs, with the objective of improving motor, social, self-care, self-image and leisure functioning skills. Assists in developing and conducting individual and group recreational therapy programs, both co-ed and non co-ed athletics. Supervises residents during recreational activities. Evaluates residents participation in program activities and their progress towards established goals and objectives. Documents responses to various activities.  Serves as a member of the treatment team that consults with other institutional professionals in determining a total treatment plan and recommends changes based on individual observations and evaluations. Completes all required paperwork, recreational schedules and attends all required training classes and meetings. Position may be assigned to new Behavioral Management Unit.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of the concepts, principles, techniques and equipment used in recreational therapy; of outdoor adventure/wilderness recreational activities; of the goals of recreational therapy and its interrelationship with other treatment programs; and of the causes of abnormal behavior and behavior modification techniques. Ability is required to supervise and plan various types of recreational activities; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; to exercise initiative and independent judgment; to work with mentally ill or physically handicapped clients; and to motivate volunteer program aides.

Special Requirements:
Must be able to pass background check and drug screening. A probation/trial period may be required. Position requires shift work (Monday-Friday after 5 and weekends; schedule to be determined by Superintendent). Applicants must be willing and able to perform all job-related travel normally associated with this position. Prefer applicants that are willing to become certified lifeguard within six months of appointment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a master’s degree in recreational therapy, outdoor recreation or physical education; or a bachelor's degree in recreational therapy, outdoor recreation or physical education and one year of experience in recreational therapy; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
