OSDH is seeking a full time WIC Communications Specialist, providing support to WIC Service, the federally funded Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children. This is an unclassified position (#34001116) in state government. OSDH offers a comprehensive Benefits packet, including a generous benefit allowance to offset the cost of insurance premiums for employees and their eligible dependents.  For more information about the benefit allowance, follow this link  Plan Year 2022. The annual salary for this position is up to $50,667.00, based on education and experience.

Position Summary:
The WIC Communications Specialist is responsible for providing marketing and communications support for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC Program). This may include developing and executing marketing plans; writing content for social media, website, and newsletters; overseeing production of program fliers, graphics and other marketing material; updating organization website; creating online advertisements; researching, writing and managing social media outreach efforts on all social platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and more); conducting market research; and similar duties and responsibilities.

Position Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
•Collaborate with program staff to design and develop digital materials and graphics to enhance programmatic activities.
•Serve as the subject matter expert for graphic design and communications concepts and methods.
•Serve as the program’s liaison to the Office of Communications and ensure agency and program brand management standards are maintained.
•Assist with social media strategy development and execution to ensure a strong, engaging social media presence.
•Design, creation, and maintenance of the WIC program’s external website.
•Maintenance of the WIC program’s pages on the OSDH website.
•Maintenance of the WIC program’s internal website, the WIC Training Link.
•Manage WIC’s Gov Delivery account.
•Design and maintain the “WIC Store.”
•Draft internal newsletter communications, press releases, media advisories, web content and social media content.
•Build and execute social media strategy through research, platform determination, audience identification and messaging.
•Monitor and, when needed, moderate user-generated content in line with the social media policy, values and mission of the agency.
•Create editorial and social media content calendars for the WIC Program when needed for outreach campaigns.
•Interface with communications managers and website manager to effectively deploy and manage social media campaigns in conjunction with the agency’s public health campaigns and overall communications plan.
•Manage social media content and online reputation for the WIC Program.
•Develop marketing plans with specific objectives across different channels and target audiences
•Execute marketing and communications strategies aimed to increase caseload across Oklahoma

*Demonstrates knowledge of and supports mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
*Works effectively in team environment, participating and assisting their peers.  

Valued Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A bachelor’s degree plus 2 years working in public health, business, marketing, communications and/or public relations.
•Excellent writing, research and communications skills are required.
•Proven working experience in social media marketing or as a copywriter is a preferred. Also, 2 years working in communications and/or public relations is preferred.
•Proven experience developing marketing plans and campaigns.
•Extensive knowledge of social media platforms PPC/Digital Advertising and Google Ads, Retargeting/Remarketing, Display, and Rich Media/Video Advertising.
•Strong storytelling/copywriting/copyediting skills.
•Basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign as well as graphic design platforms such as Canva.
•Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
•Demonstrates effective leadership qualities
•Displays professionalism.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This position is set in an office environment. While performing the duties of the job, employees are frequently required to stand, walk, lift, and reach. This position requires job-related travel.

 

 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Consists of a bachelor’s degree plus 2 years working experience in public health, business, marketing, communications and/or public relations.  Excellent writing, research and communications skills are required. Proven experience developing marketing plans and campaigns.
