Essential Functions:
Position serves as a leader of the after-school dormitory curriculum which is aimed toward educating students about non-academic matters and assisting students in preparing for transition from residential school setting to an independent environment; provides tutoring to students on a nightly basis Position is responsible for knowing where the students under their care are at all times; serve as leader of the after-school dormitory curriculum, act as liaison between the residential program and other campus programs; work in conjunction with the Social Worker to evaluate students; identify counseling needs; providing needed services or referral to School Psychologist; provide ASL oral and written reports as required; participate in conferences concerning evaluations of student progress; assist in the development/application of new approaches, methods, techniques and practices for student development The counselor promotes student success, provides preventive services and responds to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive developmental school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social development of high school grade students. Develops and manages a comprehensive school counselling program for all students (PK – 12th). Delivers the counseling curriculum to all students focusing on Personal/Social Domains. Designs, delivers, evaluates and revises a planned sequential developmentally appropriate programs needs of all students. Counsels with students to promote self-awareness, self-identity, and positive social and academic skills. Manages activities that establish, maintain, support and enhance the total school counseling system. Plans and coordinates programs that are an extension of the counseling program, i.e., Individual Education Plans, Child Study Team, red ribbon week, bullying awareness week, etc.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of basic human physical and psychological needs, simple health and safety precautions and basic first aid methods, ability to communicate effectively.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience Requirements:  Associates Degree in deaf education, human services, or a related area. Two years of experience working with the Deaf. Ability to reach the level of sign language proficiency designated for the position within the time frame established by the School’s Sign Language Communication Policy.

Preferred Qualifications:  American Sign Language Skills
